Its not like I follow the Niners personnel moves like I would my own team. So its entirely possible your FO has drafted well enough for this to be a reloading more than rebuilding year. From the outside it seems like they just blew up the team.
LB - They ended up getting Wilhoite back at LB, who pretty much filled in for Willis most of the season anyhow. If Bowman is even 90% of his former self (I have my doubts. I think the dude might be done. When I saw the injury live I definitely thought it was career ending), they'll still have one of the better LB cores in the NFL.

RB - Carlos Hyde was an absolute steal in the 2nd round and has shown shades of being a pretty powerful, fast back. His biggest issue so far is that his lateral movement needs a lot of work. We also have Kendall Hunter coming back from injury who is great out of the flat and has been a staple to the 49ers offense for a number of years now. We also signed Bush, who is getting older, but still has moments of brilliance.

DL - Dockett is going to replace Smith on the line, so while it definitely sucked to lose him, it was completely expected (Dockett was seriously one of our first signings). Smith has hopefully cleaned up his shit and if he has, he's one of the best edge rushers in the entire NFL. Also, Lynch looks like he might be the real deal on the opposite edge. So, there's still a pretty solid amount of talent along the DL.

TE - Davis was a non-factor after the Dallas Cowboys game because the playcalling was so predictable. Any time Davis came into the game on a particular offensive set, it was almost always a deep route to him across the middle of the field. Teams wised up to this after that Dallas game and just had a safety sit there every time. It's why he was a complete non-factor. That should change this year with a new coaching staff.

WR - Boldin is aging, but he's still one of the most physical guys on the team. He's a absolute monster on 3rd down. If you need to convert on 3rd, you can almost guarantee it will be a Boldin play. I like Smith and his speed/ability to stretch the field. He's no worse than any of the guys we lost (Crabtree, Johnson, Lloyd).

Honestly, the only major hits the 49ers took in the offseason were to the OL (Davis' retirement, mostly. Iupati can't stay healthy and isn't that great anyhow) and Borland. And Borland was only because he was such an unknown factor. He came out of nowhere and had insane pursuit to the ball, but it's unclear if that success would've been maintained. Willis is probably in this category as well, but he was really starting to show his age (he even talked about it in his retirement presser - his feet are starting to go). He was plagued with foot injury after foot injury. While even an older Willis is probably better than Wilhoite, I really think Wilhoite did a solid job filling in.

As long as the Bucs win 6 games and don't get blown out the other 10, I'll be happy with this coming season as a sign of the future.

It isn't just the player turnover on the 49ers that should be of concern, it is the major coaching changes as well. Tomsula may end up being the greatest coach ever (highly doubtful), but we have no idea until we see how next season goes. I have very little faith in Geep Chryst as the OC either, simply because I know nothing about him. I don't think it can be worse than what Roman did last year, but I have serious doubts they are going to suddenly be a ton more successful.

Top to bottom, I don't think the talent level of the roster is that bad. There are some major holes, depth at CB, OL, and ILB probably the biggest, but overall it isn't terrible. But even if some of the young players suddenly start playing great, this is almost an entire new team that needs time to learn how to play together. I think 8-8 would be an optimistic outlook.

Anyone who uses MMA TV for sporting events been able to get the site working the last few weeks?

Wonder if it's totally done now.

It's been down a little over a week for me. Streams are stuck in loading purgatory.

I used it last weekend to watch the Cain vs Werdum fight and it was working perfect. Tried a few of the channels right now and nothing will play. Dunno how long it has been like that though.

This was almost verbatim what most critics were saying at the end of the '10 season. That didn't turn out too badly..

This time of year is filled with so much hope for so many.
As a Texans fan, all I have to do this time of year is look at the team's QB roster and hope just dwindles away. It's been a pretty solid strategy since 2002!

Except the 49ers weren't winning prior to that, so not exactly the same circumstances here. And I could be wrong, I admit I don't completely remember, but I don't think the roster turnover was nearly as much then. The core leaders were there and had been for a couple years.

Living in Cincinnati during the 90s Bengals was always hilarious. Team would go 2-14. We'd get the local sports Iraqi Information Minster going all offseason how they're fixing all the issues with the team and things are looking promising for the future. 4-12. Next year. Just imagine how great we'll be next year when a fully healthy Kijana Carter comes back to light up the league. 3-13. It was hilarious watching this year by year.

That was such a weird year. After like 10 years of total shit it seemed so strange to be watching the 49ers win games. Just making the playoffs was such a big deal and then to go to the NFC Championship was crazy. I almost didn't want them to go to the superbowl just because it seemed like too much of a change too quickly.

Well it became clear that the talent was being held back by all the coaching changes that had been going on year after year. You don't suddenly find yourself in the NFC Championship game on a fluke. Say what you want about Harbaugh, but he did a great job at getting that team over the hump. They had the talent, they just needed someone that could coach it. Now it's all going to pot again. Most of the talent is gone. They lost the most this offseason out of their division. Everyone else either stayed even or made good to great strides. It's impossible to know how everything is going to shake out, but even average NFL fans can read these tea leaves. And they say the 49ers finishing last in the division is more likely than not.

Bah. I am going to need Sunday Ticket but I don't really feel like throwing a dish on my house.
