Alex Smith is terrible. And he apparently can't find a receiver in the end zone.

Carr is still young and he plays in Oakland. That's like over negative 9000 power there.

Peyton at least is capable. One wonders how much he has left in the tank. Also, new coaching staff. That always goes over well.

Rivers has to be like two steps from going Catler on us. Not in talent, just in "giving-a-shit-a-tude".

I'd say the AFC West is going to end up being the least interesting division but that's discounting the AFC South which has Indy and Luck andnothing else.
I have to agree with you. It will be a dog fight to see which team will win the division but I don't see more than one from either. Is this the year we see multiples from the AFC East again? I think it is...maybe 3 is the multiple I am looking for.

Not 3. I think 2nd in East is between Bills and Dolphins and they'll compete for a WC but I'm fairly certain North will also send more than 1.

I can definitely see that but north is weakest ive seen in a bit. Steelers look good but Ravens and Bengals been skirting in the past couple. Could see that trend ending

Honest question, do the Steelers actually look worth a shit this year or is that homerism? They seemed pretty inconsistent and long in the tooth last season.

I bet you the Dolphins win the AFC East this year.

This could happen. Maybe Suh will stomp on Brady's leg or something else awesome.
We can only hope. I want to see his fear.

I think they turned it around. It took a bit for Rapist to get adjusted but he did.

The Bengals had their best season since the 80s or early 90s only two years ago. Last year they made playoffs without their best defensive player, their second best defensive player recovering from an ACL tear, their planned #1 TE, a lot of AJ, and #2 WR bustout Marvin Jones. And they still managed to go 10-5-1. The playoff game the Bengals played last year literally had them missing their top four receiving targets (Gresham missed that game too). It was Jeremy Hill against the world. It was something ridiculous like players responsible for over 30 of the previous years' TDs were missing from that game.

Still, making playoffs five years in a row is tough. Hopefully a weak-looking AFC West happens because the NFC West is gonna be tough (AFCN plays both divisions).

Ravens will be fine.

It's entirely possible that the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals are 3 of the 6 best teams in the AFC again, but the odds of them all being in the playoffs are low: those inter-division games they'll play screw up their in-division records (and the wildcard tiebreakers run through the in-division rules first) and screw up their in-conference records (which is the second criteria on the out-of-division rules).

It's obviously possible - it happened last season! - but in general you need the two wildcard-candidate teams from a division to have better records than ALL of the other wildcard options. And while the AFC West and AFC South may not have any 10-6 Wildcard options, it seems likely at least one AFC East wildcard option would get there.

The other thing is I expect at least one of those AFC North teams to have injury issues at some point in the season. That division is the toughest, dirtiest, hardest hitting one in the game right now. None of those teams are going into the playoffs healthy.

Ravens/Bengals/Steelers all went to the playoffs in 2011 as well. As for injuries, Ravens secondary was completely decimated last year and see Alex's post for Cinci. At some point maybe people should recognize what division is the most elite!

Not to burst any bubbles but the AFC North played one of the easiest schedules I can remember. Getting to play both the horrendous AFC South and NFC South all in one year? They didn't really play all that great last year as evidenced with both the Steelers and Bengals getting raped in the first playoff game. The Ravens always skirt the edge and play better in the playoffs than during the year. As Phazael mentions, these guys play rough ball and that only helps the other teams in the AFC. I could see two of them getting in but all 3 again? Nope, not going to happen. I'll avatar bet that anytime.

I'm not saying all three will get in again, but that schedule talk is loser excuse shit. The Patriots have a cakewalk division every year, are they over rated thanks to an easy schedule? I'd love to say they are but objectively you can't.
