I'm a little surprised.
I've said before that Hines Ward will get in eventually based on being a Steelers player and a media darling. That's basically what happened here I assume. I mean, I loved Bettis but he's not a guy that I ever really thought of as an all time great.

I don't think he particularly deserves it, but judging him by numbers isn't how it's going to happen. You'll get a big narrative about how he's the best blocking WR of all time, changed the game even without the ball etc etc.
All that plus 7th or 8th in career receptions when he retired and like I said, media darling and Steelers player. He'll get in eventually. Probably. The inflated receiver numbers that he mostly missed out on might bite him in the ass.

Yeah no shit. Pretty clear case of a guy NOT being media friendly really hurting him.
So, completely off topic...
I haven't kept up with Eddie George and his doing since he retired. Barely ever seen him off the field or heard him speak etc. I think I heard him on Dan Patrick mention he had taken up Shakespearean acting. He was the guest on the latest episode of Comedy Bang Bang, a goofy comedy fake talk show based on improv and just sillyness. The premise of the week was the host/sidekick of this show were feuding with the new sports show hosts in the building, got challenged to do a sports episode while the others did a comedy one. Anyways, that lead to Eddie George as the guest.
He was fucking great. Really funny, fit in perfectly, and he seems like he can actually act really well. If you are a Titans fan(Gilg?) you definitely need to find the episode. But if not I'd say still give it a try just to see if you're as impressed by Eddie as I was.AV Club seemed to be.

Is he going in as a 49er or a cowboy? I think he played longer as a niner, but had more success as a cowboy, and is in the Ring of Honor.
I'm guessing 49er since that's where he began and ended his career.

This isn't MLB. Players aren't attached to teams when they go into the Football Hall of Fame. They are just Hall of Famers. Period.
And the only reason it's a big deal in the Baseball Hall of Fame, is because they decided to put a cap on the player with an actual team logo. Otherwise, it wouldn't matter there either. Player busts in the Football HoF don't get helmets, so team affiliation is irrelevant.
