Or..... If JJ really wanted to keep him he would have restructured someone else's deal and given them more guaranteed money and spread it out over more years.Yeah, because they let people go instead of resigning them. For example, the Cowboys would have surely kept Demarcus Ware if JJ could have spent however much money he wanted.
Except you know, for that one year when there was no cap, and the Skins had to take $18 million hit on their cap for two years and the Cowboys took $5 million hit for 2 years. This is actually pretty true. Every year for a decade I've heard people talking about the Redskins and Cowboys going into the offseason and how precarious their cap situation is. Come training camp and they've moved money around and there's absolutely no issue.
They could have kept him without doing anything. However, after two years of being hurt and with half his normal production, and on the wrong side of 30, they decided to try and see if he would take a paycut. When he didn't, despite not needing too, they cut him. They improved this year despite losing him which is why I'm a bit bummed that Marinelli didn't get more consideration for Assistant Coach of the year. He took a squad that was supposed to be dead last and made them at least halfway decent.Or..... If JJ really wanted to keep him he would have restructured someone else's deal and given them more guaranteed money and spread it out over more years.
Depends on how the Lynch situation shakes out and if they overpay Wilson or not. Sadly, Wilson is not worth top QB money, but they almost have to keep him because he is the only positive public face of the team and they already dumped Tate for porking his ex wife. They are kind of committed at this point and his agent knows this. They SHOULD just embrace their role as the new team of the biggest assholes in the NFL and keep Lynch, because Wilson is frankly very easily replaced if they do (assuming they somehow keep their D intact).I don't know if there is a team out there doing better in the draft than Seattle right now, especially in the later rounds. I don't see the cap being much of a hinderance to them.
And if there's something this Charger "fan" knows a bit about, it's definitely the intricacies of the Seahawks front office decisions! You are on some serious crack if you think Wilson is easily replaced.
Lynch will likely go to who ever pays him the most. People will be cut just like last year to keep things in control. This thread the last few pages is probably the best comedy on the board. A bunch of know nothing's pontificating.
Hey we can't all be bandwagon Montana 49er fans. And if there's something this Charger "fan" knows a bit about, it's definitely the intricacies of the Seahawks front office decisions!
Pitt has been doing well for the last 6 years drafting receivers, running backs and defensive guys who can play immediately and then dropping them when their contracts get big.I don't know if there is a team out there doing better in the draft than Seattle right now, especially in the later rounds. I don't see the cap being much of a hinderance to them.
Emmit Smithis it really that crazy to assume Marshawn Lynch falls off the face of the earth next year? Name a running back with sustained best-at-position success other than AP?
Well...receivers anyways...Pitt has been doing well for the last 6 years drafting receivers, running backs and defensive guys who can play immediately and then dropping them when their contracts get big.
maybe stick to the past 15 years bud. really? naming the greatest RBs in NFL history as your example.Emmit Smith
Walter Payton
Barry Sanders
Jim Brown
Webb is good and will be a force to be reckoned with for the next couple of years. Worilds is pretty good and would start on most teams in the NFL. Mendenhall was a good pick and did well for a couple years though he has fallen off now.Well...receivers anyways...
Hitting on Bell was huge, but it's not something they've done regularly. And the defense has just been getting older and worse for years. Lawrence Timmons is the only unmitigated success from the draft on D in the last few years(he's pretty underrated around the league, but 3-4 ILB's never rack up huge numbers). There's contributors(Vince Williams, Tuitt) and guys that still might make the leap(Shazier and Jones, and Heyward is good but not a homerun)but yeah just Timmons. And DB's have been a nearly unrelenting disaster.
You didn't qualify it so I listed those who have sustained great numbers. Lynch might be up there with them. In the past 15 years Jerome Bettis put up great numbers for years. Arian Foster put up 4 years over 1200 yards. Tomlinson had 1000+ yards for like 8 years in a row. Curtis Martin had 1000+ yards 10 years. Edgerrin James had 7 seasons with 1000+ yards and one season where he fell just short.maybe stick to the past 15 years bud. really? naming the greatest RBs in NFL history as your example.
