Webb is good and will be a force to be reckoned with for the next couple of years.
Based on what? Were you his college roommate or something? Also they didn't draft him.

Worilds is pretty good and would start on most teams in the NFL.
Yeah he definitely falls in to the contributor camp. But it took him 4 years to break through and even this season he was really inconsistent. I like him and I'm hopeful going forwardm but he's not some huge draft success story. Yet.

Mendenhall was a good pick and did well for a couple years though he has fallen off now.
He had two good years around one season where he was misused as a workhorse back. He was incredibly frustrating to watch. He also had the misfortune to be here right in that awesome stretch of abhorrent offensive lines so who knows how good he could have truly been.

Yeah, if Mendenhall hadn't broken his shoulder and had stayed long enough for the OLine to not be 100% retarded he might have had a better career.

I forgot they didn't draft Webb. This year he had some good coverage in the nickel package. It's really hard to judge the current Steelers defensive backfield because Dick stopped having balls and rarely called quality blitzes which hurts everyone. I think a new coordinator is exactly what Webb and the other young guys need.

I'm a die hard Steeler guy so I might be looking through rose colored glasses but the improvements they have made in every aspect of their game have been huge and it's been mostly young guys. I am going to hate to see Ike T and Troy go over the next couple of years but I think they have a solid second string that will start contributing. If not, I am sure Harrison will come back for his 54th season....

im just saying that smart teams wont go gang busters for Lynch. To me that means he ends up staying in Seattle
As long as people will open their wallets to see Lynch play or talk or not talk, he will have value and could easily be traded to another team, even if the owners understood completely that Lynch might be almost done. Jersey Sales and Air Time.

Laveon Bell, Demarco Murray, Eddie Lacy, Marshawn Lynch, Lashawn Mccoy, Justin Forsett..

leagues kind of stacked up with equally good RBs

Jeremy Hill & Jamaal Charles too. Both 1000+ yard rushers on just over 200 carries

side note, KC needs to get back on Jamaal's shoulders and off of Alex Smith's

NFL Career leading rushers:
name - yards
1. Emmitt Smith+ 18,355
2. Walter Payton+ 16,726
3. Barry Sanders+ 15,269
4. Curtis Martin+ 14,101
5. LaDainian Tomlinson 13,684

# of 1000 yard seasons after age 30, % of yards gained after 30
1. Emmitt Smith+ 2, 24%
2. Walter Payton+ 4, 39%
3. Barry Sanders+ 1, 10% (he retired at 30 though, only 1 season played in his 30s)
4. Curtis Martin+ 2, 26%
5. LaDainian Tomlinson 0, 14%

Then just briefly looking over some other notable names on the NFL career rushing list, Jerome Bettis, Eric Dickerson, Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, Marcus Allen, OJ simpson never had a single 1000 yard season after the age of 30, and all are in the top 20 in career rushing in the NFL.

So basically, unless you are one of the top handful of backs in league history, you're probably done at age 30, and DEFINITELY done by 31 or 32, virtually no one outside of Walter Payton had any overly great seasons after the age of 32.

Steven Jackson is the current active rushing leader with 11,000 yards, he has 8 1000-yard rushing seasons, but not a single one since turning 30(he's 32
now)

Lynch will be 29 when next season starts, he's got 2 good years left, tops, maybe only 1.

Look, they are going to keep Wilson and probably overpay him to boot. He is the only likeable guy on the roster with national name recognition. But he is a running QB and their shelf life is actually shorter than that of the typical RB. Usually at the three year mark, they either learn to be a good pocket passer and supplement that with the occasional run or they tank. I think he is more accurate than most running QBs (I did watch him as a Badger), but his passing skills are mostly unremarkable and bolstered by having one of the best active RBs backing him up. Take a good look at his numbers when Lynch was dinged up and tell me I am smoking crack. Hell, the Seattle Offense was not exactly blowing the roof off of anyone good when Lynch WAS in there and it took a full scale coaching meltdown by GB with a decidedly Defense for them to even GET to the SB. His accuracy is not where the elite guys are and his deep game consists of chucking it up and hoping to draw the penalty or that his wideout is taller than the other guy. And that's easy to do when opponents sell out to the run every play. A lot of QBs out there can do that if you give them Lynch to back them up.

But, I predict that a full on Flacco will happen with him and that the Hawks will franchise tag Lynch instead, because when you win a SB and are the only remotely likeable guy on a team, you tend to get a few extra bucks in your contract. If I were Seattle, I would give him a contract very similar to Kaeperbro's (heavily incentive based and team friendly), tag Lynch (he has maybe 2 years left in him anyhow and has to play well to pimp his gold gear bs), and spend the money to keep their Defense intact. Lynch is going to peter out and you cannot do anything about it. That Defense, especially the secondary, has the potential to be amazing for a long time and you can win a lot of games with an average offense if your D keeps everyone down to one or two scores. From a purely logical view, Wilson is the most expendable piece of the equation and if they overpay him it will make retaining the D a lot harder. This is especially true coming off that kind of a loss with a lot of key contracts to work out. Trust me, as a Packer fan I know this situation far too well.

So 2 defensive contracts = a lot? Really? Bobby Wagner who can renegotiate his rookie deal and Byron Maxwell being a free agent are the 2 on defense that we have to work out. That leaves Russ to work out as Marshawn is under contract for the 2015 season so no, we won't franchise tag him or even can for that matter. Do you really just pull shit out of your ass about a team you don't even follow?

A part of me would ~love~ to see Seattle going all Phil Emery with Wilson...

...another team needs to suffer too!

It is my dream for these words to ring true about the players of all teams I cheer for. "Hey, he'd be a starter on most teams..."

@Ganlak-
Do you think the rest of the Legion of Boom are not going to want to renegotiate for more money ahead of the end of their deals? Defensive backs are some of the most greedy and fickle fuckers around and with good reason. Ones who can actually back up their bullshit (Sherman is in this category) are rare and worth the investment. And I have seen enough teams picked apart after a loss like this (including my own when Holmgren shit the bed against Denver) to know how this will play out, especially with the general attitude of these guys. If you guys don't get ahead of this and secure all the key parts of the D with long term deals, you will go from lockdown to "bend but don't break" faster than you can say Chicago Bears.

About running backs, 30 is usually when the abuse of the position starts to set in, especially for blocking backs and power runners. Having a great QB can extend the lifespan of a RB, of course, but even then you really get maybe 3-4 good years out of them. AP seems to be the lone exception to this in the modern era, though you could make a good case for Watters, too.
