They are taking micro concussions to the head on every snap though. Linemen are the ones sustaining the really bad long term brain damage in the game.

Kinda like how boxers have their brain rattling around the entire fight where an MMA fighter just gets knocked unconscious and it is done. The latter is actually better.

Right, its the little repeated blows that get to you. Linemen, and to a lesser but significant degree linebackers, are literally bumping heads every snap. With O-line, those guys tend to play all the snaps on offense or close to it. And with the exception of left tackles they aren't getting any big contracts like a skill player might.

Speaking of broken down football players, Maurice Jones Drew officially hanging it up.

Seems like there is a lot of speculation about Troy Polamalu's future going on out there.

I say the Steelers should let him start for as long as he wants!
He actually wasn't terrible last year. Graded out as "Good" on PFF and he really didn't screw up too much. If he was a lot cheaper I wouldn't hate him back one more year, mostly because that secondary is fucked.

Not that I want him to stick around for long.

MJD is done

Maurice Jones-Drew retires after eight years with Jacksonville Jaguars, one with Oakland Raiders - ESPN

I always thought he was pretty underrated as a RB, damn solid back. Maybe not the best in the league at any point, but a top 10, maybe top 5 back most of his career.

MJD career stats are damn similar to Marshawn Lynch:

Drew:
9 years, 8167 yards, 67 TD, 4.4 YPC, 3000 receiving yards, 11 receiving TDs

Lynch:
9 years, 8695 yards, 79 TD, 4.3 YPC, 1900 receiving yards, 9 receiving TDs

Unfortunately, MJD toiled away on horrid Jacksonville teams most of his career, so probably never got the recognition he deserved. Lynch lucked out and got the hell out of Buffalo and it's the best thing he ever did for his career.

He was always the reason the Colts MIGHT not win the AFC South division. We did, but he was the one reason we might not most years.

And to be fair, I'd also quit whatever I was doing in life if I had to do it in Oakland

Chip's time is about to run out. He's obviously seeking guys who fit his scheme, and where else would you get that besides Oregan is beyond me since I don't follow college ball, but most "new" offensive wrinkles only get a couple of years of great success before it drops down to being as effective as anything else. See: Wildcat. Mariota will be a rookie, and he's not even rated all that highly from what I can gather and even if he's familiar with the scheme, he will not be ready for NFL defenses. Very few rookies are.

Loading up a roster full of Oregon players makes sense, since they won all of those championships. Oh wait...

WTF is Chip doing?
