Really, the first time I can say ok you fucked up. After all the shit this dude's been through for this to happen again, and not just a DUI but hit and run shit? The guy has serious issues.
It sounds like they were even considering giving him another chance according to this quote.

A team source tells ESPN's Jim Trotter that 49ers general manager Trent Baalke met with Smith after he was released from jail Friday morning, and after Smith refused to take responsibility for his latest arrest, the team decided to release him.
I mean that doesn't mean that they weren't going to release him, but him not even owning up to it made their decision immediate.

I like that we're discussing the cost of a car service as if that's the reason they don't use it. The NFLminimumis almost a half million a year. I'm sure the $30 for a cab ride is really the deciding factor.
This x 1000

Fuck him. NFL is becoming a joke.

You just aren't going anywhere when you're 19th in D and 22nd in rushing.
2012 Super Bowl Champion NY Giants: 27th in D, 32nd (DFL) in rushing
2013 Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens: 17th in D, 11th in rushing
2015 Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots: 13th in D, 18th in rushing

Seattle being the outlier for the last 4 years, being #1 in D and 4th in rushing. If you go back 6 years, Packers were terrible running the ball (24th), and Saints had a shitty D (25th).

Generally you need either an elite QB or an elite run game and defense. There are exceptions to every rule of course. I think the Ravens D was better than their ranking indicated and Eli gets sort of elite in the playoffs sometimes (and also really lucky).

I hate to bring politics into this thread but if you aren't watching the GOP debate broadcast, you're missing important national questions.

Basically, it really helps if you get hot at the right time. Giants 2 recent Super Bowls and Ravens Super Bowl are great examples of that. Even so though, the old formula of having to be able to pound the ball and having a great D for success in the playoffs isn't a completely hard rule anymore. Still helps, and a lot of cases of "bad D's" even in the ones I listed played quite a bit better than their regular season rankings in those playoffs (Giants especially come to mind).

Giants limped into the playoffs with seven losses, barely making it via a win in the last game against Dallas to take the crown for an awful division. Like you said they got hot at the right time and there was a lot of luck involved. Not just in the SB but the NFCC.

That year's D for the Ravens allowed lots of yards but they were great in the red zone. Being eleventh in rushing is a hell of a lot better than 22nd.

Pats, 13th in D is nothing to sneeze at and they have a HoF QB one of the best of all time so that sort of counterbalances a run game.

Pack have Rodgers, Saints D that year was good with turnovers which makes up for some things, plus that's the NFC. Sure there's outliers but generally in the AFC you needsomethingmore than the one dimensional teams the Colts have been fielding with Luck.
