I'm curious, do you like and find WOW to be engaging?
Of course I did. However, the advent of more interactive combat has caused me to move on. I understand why a lot of people enjoy it though, it's a great game.

What MMOs are fun and worth playing in your opinion?
For all of its flaws, Guild Wars 2 is the best MMO on the market. TSW and WoW are close behind.

What makes an MMO good?
A large interactive world, challenging content with a focus on groups, immersiveness, skill (not level) based, interesting combat, etc. How about things that make a bad MMO? Emphasis on story, voice acting, quest treadmills, over-use of phasing, focused on solo gameplay, fixed factions.

Pretty sure Neverwinter is ALOT more fun out of the gate as well.
Even DCUO now its had a ton of updates to fix the clusterfuck at launch.

Then also planetside2.

The things you hate about TESO are a very large part of WOW, though. I chuckle that so many of the people who gripe about TESO not being innovative enough or for the reasons you bolded above, then head right back to WOW.

I felt GW2 was a very mediocre MMO. I believe I got my moneys worth, but it's a fairly hollow game. The PVE was way too repetitive. Many of the areas were identical. The biggest problem I had is the classes were just terrible. It does look gorgeous, but I didn't care for the combat that much. The best part of GW2 outside of the WvW were the class storylines which were a magnitude worse than even the early level class storylines in TESO, and the exploration which grew stale to me very fast as it felt like a cheap parlor trick. Hey, jump on this rock to reach a vista, but we've made it so you have to find just the right spot to jump! I actually would rather play P99 than GW2.

I enjoyed WOW the first few years, but it is the epitome of mudflation, and I've never been able to be immersed in it's graphics. What it does do right is the combat system it copied from EQ and refined to be great with it's tech team. The content in WOW the last two expansions for me is the most rote boring shit, and the raid design doesn't really appeal to me anymore. What they did do right is LFR and some of the technical changes which makes the game more casual friendly. I play a few days in my free week, but there is no draw for me. I might play if it were free to play occasionally, like I do with Rift and SWTOR. I find both of those games to be better but probably for the same reason you dislike TESO.

TESO has a large interactive world. I'm hoping it has a focus on groups. I like the graphics which provide a far better immersiveness to me, personally. The combat is ok. I'm hoping it gets better when I get higher level and group, but I do know groups in GW2 were just awful in my opinion with no real roles.

Everything is subjective, but I like story, I like voice acting, and I like having solo options and the concept of phasing even if I think it need to be more refined. It sounds like this game isn't for you, which is cool. I'm not sure if it'll be for me, but I like what I see probably for the same reasons you hate it. I guess it's why some of us will be buying it, while others will be slamming it and heading back to WOW or GW2 or whatever for the same reasons.

I think at this point it boils down to taste. If you've put a good 10 hours into ESO (as some of you have stated) and still don't like it, it might just not be the game for you. Luckily there are a lot of people who are having a very good time. I like the combat, and find the lore and quests really fun. I'm excited to get into crafting, but not really messing with it in a beta. The ability to explore and gain significant xp by doing things like finding a cave and killing the boss inside are a real plus for me.

Itemization is improving with each patch, and I'm actually enjoying the rare items I find. It feels like a world. If you take it slow and just immerse yourself, I don't see how you can call it bland or boring. I think there are different types of RPG players out there. Maybe some people who play MMO's really aren't into RPG's after all?

Edit: Oh, and my biggest worry from last beta - the 10-20 minute load screens - seems to be fixed!

Things I like about this game so far is its fast, and pretty damn fluid. I like being able to sprint ,dodge, jump up in the air while swinging a weapon.
Can even block while jumping, but have no clue if that is even useful other then for Pakour.

It's the first game where I don't miss the mouse cursor at all. Even in Tera/ Neverwinter I felt a little weird about constantly switching back ,and forth but this game for some reason doesn't feel bad to me.

The game on Ultra settings is pretty nice looking. I like all the lighting effects, and it maintains a very high FPS.

This is also the first game where I don't mind custom classes. Don't know if this guy was trolling, but someone mentioned a couple days ago that a dual wielding magic user is badass, so I built that and it is fun as hell.
I'm sure the new car smell will wear off, but for now I'm liking it. Doesn't feel like another WOW clone which is good.

What does annoy me are these game breaking progression bugs. Was stopped last night completely because no one could get past a certain point in the story, and no amount of relogging or /reloadui would help.
Also I hate that it is so hard to find a merchant sometimes, and I have yet to find an option that will show me friendly nameplates.

Exactly, TESO does a lot of things that were cutting edge six to ten years ago.

I chuckle that so many of the people who gripe about TESO not being innovative enough or for the reasons you bolded above, then head right back to WOW.
Who's going back WoW? I must have missed that, but I could understand that. The things that TESO and WoW share, WoW does better. What's really chuckle worthy is the people who say SWTOR is more fun.

I felt GW2 was a very mediocre MMO.
It is mediocre. Here's the thing, I would rather play a mediocre GW2 that took real risks, than a rehash of a 10 year old MMO. Hence my complete disdain for SWTOR.

TESO has a large interactive world.
More like a small, slightly interactive world. The phasing, level restricted content, fixed faction, quest treadmill nonsense makes the world feel small. The books, urns, backpacks, skyshards, chest... throughout the world are a nice touch. However, GW2's exploration was more believeable and rewarding than TESO.

I'm hoping it has a focus on groups.
No evidence, outside of Cyrodill, that it does. Maybe the mystical Adventure Zone but I wouldn't hold my breath that they are that compelling. No, this game is definitively, solo-focused.

I like the graphics which provide a far better immersiveness to me, personally.
Agreed. I also really enjoy playing this in 1st person.

The combat is ok. I'm hoping it gets better when I get higher level
I like the combat in TESO. It's definately, not the best, but I enjoy it. I also love the flexibility of the skill, weapon and armor systems. More games should embrace this type of freedom. I think this game would play as a MMO so much better had they done away with levels all together and went all in with Skill Points as progression.

In the end, I'm buying the game mainly because there is nothing else to play that I'm not already completely bored with. I really enjoyed PvP and I think I can remove my "Cynical As Fuck" goggles to tolerate the PvE aspects and get immersed. This game, however, is not anywhere near the level of trash that Utnayan comically portrays it, nor as ridiculously good as Blackwulf or Rescorla. TESO does a few things well (PvP, skill and weapons sytems), but is generally uninspired and boring PvE-wise. It's just... meh.

I think there will be an add on for name plates, and people on PTS say most quest bugs are fixed, but as of right now, I agree with those two complaints.

These kind of things baffle me and it happens with every game. Why would a company not push a patch, for what is essentially your demo/open beta, for all the bugs that will just turn players away and make them not want to play.

I would want to keep the client that the masses see as up to date as possible to give the best experience possible.

Thing I hate so far is not enough bag space. 400g for 10 more slots? They hate crafters? I have yet to find a personal bank, thinking there isnt one. Guilds need to have 10 players to have a Gbank, 50 for the Gshop atm. Seems a bit limited, they might as well put gshop at 100 and gbank at 25 to fully give the finger to small guilds with no option to grind unlock those abilities.

Cant break items but at stations, took me forever to find one. I have to port back to the head town to break then run out to were I was at to just fill up within 10min and port back. 40g just to port. I wont be seeing any profits with that all mess. Most of what I have I break, so that doesnt leave much for selling to NPC for cash. I dont mind the looping but seems a bit much if you cant storage some of these mats. Over half my inv is mats I am carrying around due to no space to put it.

I have yet to find a vender that selling Honing Stones or other update components, guessing its a break only available gain item? Enchanting is interesting. Alchemy is a bit of a mess, still testing it out.

So far research looks to be a standard 6hr per item, guessing that will increase on higher lvl items?

Not seeing any sort of tinting/dyeing/coloring of items, guessing this is not in the game?

Leather working is missing, there is something tagged in Clothing but looks like Leather working arts is just not there and pushed into part Clothing and maybe blacksmithing. Just seems disconnected. They have leather vendors but no station?

I have yet to see any way to make rings, necklace and other artificer style items. Guessing the gems are just used for styles? Soo odd.

Bank is the chest icon on the map, its the same guy who does the guild bank, the first option he gives you is personal bank.

So 2/3rds through lvl 9 and only quests in log are 3 bugged ones and a lvl 12 that kicks my ass. GAME TOO HARD, can't wait for dark souls 2 to come out, I bet that one is easy.

when I did a Daggerfall char, there were no icons on the map for crafting/bank, on the two starter islands. (the bank is right next to all the crafters/bag merchant though on the first island. Second island iirc the bank is inside the orc fortress.) venders and crafters are more spread out there.
pretty sure my nord faction char did have icons though..

400g is very cheap. like you said, a port is 40g. that should give you an idea how little it really is. Standard npc drops give 1g. the souls in the tutorial were 1g each. then add in weapon/armor drops. Or selling extra craft mats.
Having 2k g for backpack t2, or more bank slots by level 8 shouldnt be too hard. unless you are smashing EVERYTHING. Sell some of the weapons you get as drops.

clothing is leather and cloth yes. light and medium armor.
blacksmithing is weapons, and heavy armor.
Woodworking is staffs, bows, and shields.

Bag space is really tight early game.
runes, cooking mats, crafting mats...
All the stupid gems needed for styles, etc. Giant waste of space.
Game is REALLY lacking a /deposit all crafting mats. ala gw2..

You CAN at least craft from the bank. no need to remove what you want to use to access it.

cooking seems especially convoluted.

I just can not get into this game at all. I guess I have quest fatigue. Wish they would just let you go straight to PVP like GW2. So sick of games making me go talk to this guy then that guy then this guy. Least it's not as bad as FF.

400 gold doesnt seem like that big of a deal. I have 1300g by the time im lvl 5? I ended up hating the class I played up to lvl 8 and picked another and .. if you're skipping the dialogue and know where to go, it has taken me all of maybe 2 hours to get to lvl 12. Just pointing out that the dialogue is what is filling your playtime with this game. Game is also much more enjoyable now that Im playing a class I like hehe ~
