Yeah I agree. I want an MMO that is a living breathing escape from RL world. Not a "kill this many things to get next level" MMO like they all have been lately. What first drew me to EQ was the idea of living in this other world, trading, interacting, exploring, and yes fighting. Hell I think I spent more time in UO crafting and building my house and selling things from it, than I did fighting.

WoW and these copies are nothing more than action games with some RPG elements. We need a true online "RPG". Think of a well done MMO like Game of Thrones MMO (Please don't make this, game industry) . Politics, multiple heroes/anti-heroes of all chaotic, lawful, etc. Time to put the RPG back into MMORPG. The next game that breaks away from the MMOAction mold, and does this well done, will probably be the next big hit.

Haha, I've tried EVE, couldn't get into it. Too many things about the game I didn't like, and I do prefer having a character in an actual world, rather than a ship floating in space. That game did really leave a lot to be desired for me. Now if they could take that openness and put it in an MMO with characters and a world, they might have something.

Have there actually been any good games that use hero engine?
Ifwikipedia can be believed, the list isn't very long:

Released

Faxion Online (2011) - UTV Ignition Entertainment
Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011) - BioWare[11]

Unreleased

Hero's Journey - company's game the engine was developed for
Dominus - PitchBlack Games[12]
The Repopulation - Above and Beyond Technologies
Trials of Ascension - Forged Chaos
Though according tothis Game Informer article, ESO isn't using Hero engine. Did someone say it was?

I thought back when this was in development it was said somewhere that it was. Maybe they changed? OK.. I did some digging no idea how true this is. Last two sentences are clearly key..

"Developers tell that HeroEngine was used as a good tool to get some new ideas in the game. But it does not mean that it will be used in the final version of the game without any changes. ZeniMax tell that HeroEngine helped them to get started. But final version of Elder Scrolls Online will have its own unique engine. Everything in the game's engine will be written for this game. ESO will be a new MMO with its own features. Developers say that the main difference between ESO and other MMO games will be advanced social features. It is impossible to implement such changes without modifying engine.Anyway engine is only a basis of a game. It does not define what kind of content, or even what type of game, will be made. Stability, graphical awesomeness, and other features depend on the ability of programmers and designers. Everything depends on how all features will be realized. Even a super engine will not help if the staff is not professional. ZeniMax have only professional game developers in the team. It guarantees that the game will have very high quality and the game will be stable, beautiful and interesting."

it's definitely the hero engine, and if it isn't, the devs should be ashamed. the game looks like warm ass.

As a betting man, I will chop my dick off, shove it up my own ass, and buy four life-time subscriptions for SWTOR if this game turns out to be anything other than a turd. What do I get if I'm right? Not really concerned about it, this bet has less risks than the developers took.

You are gonna have to firm this up a little: What do you mean exactly by 'turd'? Give us some specifics; how else can we hold you accountable if you're wrong? Also, be sure to post up a film of your self mutilation/rape. Should make headline news...

You are completely correct. Turd sets the bar too high.

Players will create this ad hoc if you take the guard rails off of the game. Give people an incentive to band together for survival as well as the ability to take from others who fail to protect themselves and this shit will pop up out of thin air.
You're right, less stupid annoying guard rails. Let players do what they want.

Also, where's the coach. He's gone dark.

Guessing he means a game that's widely regarded as excellent and actually grows in popularity. Has there been an MMORPG since WoW that has become more succesful post-release as opposed to these constant nosedives? Unfortunately, I think developers have simply discovered that it's more profitable to spend $20m making a shitty, half-assed game that brings in $50m in the first six months and then dies out, upon which you make another such game and repeat the cycle, rather than spend $200m making an awesome game that brings in $50m per year for the next eight years. The gaming industry has become like the food industry: McDonalds are making a fortune serving absolute garbage to people because it costs them nothing to produce and people buy it anyway. Why run a quality restaurant, then? You'd have to actually be good at cooking and stuff. It's depressing in a way because I don't think today's MMORPG developers are even trying to make good games, they knowingly make shit that costs very little to produce.

I guess you are describing what you consider to be NOT a turd. I guess you can go by what most people/reviewers say, but personally I think WOW is a turd. It represents everything I've grown to NOT like in an MMO. That's one of the reasons I am extremely not excited about Wildstar. To me, WOW and it's clones are the Farmvilles of MMO. I'm not saying ESO is going to be awesome - I used to think that, but after seeing those beta leaks and more importantly, seeing that Zenimax has released jack shit as far as official gameplay vids go, I'm a lot more skeptical. Let this be a lesson to game devs: I was here fighting the good fight, trying to talk this game up, but your shitty communication and fucking gay FB updates (Developer questions the fans? WTF? How about we question the devs and they actually answer the tough questions? How about fuck that and just release some gameplay vids) have made me into a skeptic.

Sadly when you get more updates about a fucking food truck then the actual game, something is wrong.

Lol no shit.

"Tell me about your game"

ZO: "The food truck will be making it's rounds in colleges near you! PS: We are only using the hero engine for prototyping our own engine!"
