I'll say it again..

Zenimax "Hey guys, you know what's a great idea? Let's take a SINGLE player franchise that's beloved for it's exploration and PVE and focus our end game on PVP!!!"

Don't get me wrong PvP in is great but the end game focus of this franchise? Farrrrkk me. How does a group of functioning people agree on this shit.
Not even he himself knows.

See I'm of the opposite mindset here...

They know they make very good single player offline RPGs that are PVE focused. I'm sure a significant portion of their player base have always wanted an online elder scrolls where they can beat on each other... They are providing it.

Outside of us MMO snobs, this game is going to absolutely destroy. I wouldn't be surprised if there were 3million+ users in the first week.

(Unless reviewers murder it - but even sim city sold 2 million iirc)

I would agree with you if it was a multiplayer mod for Skyrim. It isn't. It's a theme park MMORPG with instanced RvR with no persistent meaning or feel, led by a completely different set of schmucks on wheels.

Replace Matt Firor with Todd Howard and the Bethesda Team over relic designers that really suck, I would be equally as excited.

We all know it will still sell on IP alone, and that's been the problem with people at Bethesda. They don't want it tainting their RPG.

Too much brown......

My only major complaint with TESO at this point is that I'm sick of fantasy based mmo's (WildStar is NOT an alternative). The IP forces them to keep the standard tropes (as does EQNext), but it really is tiresome seeing elves, goblins and brown everywhere.

Do you guys think this is going to kill the IP? I mean, I would assume we aren't going to see any single player games coming out in the next 10 years because of this.

You are joking right? This shit is gonna sell millions of copies and probably make zenimax hundreds of millions. Even if it is totally awful. They are going to cash in on this IP every 2 years for the next 10

The problem is PvP can't been done right unless the game is built from the ground up to be a PvP game.

I don't think you understood my question, or it wasn't the answer I was looking for.

With this piece of trash MMO being made, they will likely continue making solely for the MMO and not a single player sequel is what I'm wondering.

Ya ya I get it. It won't be 'done right' by OUR standards.

The truth is, this game has to be a 7/10 at most to be a financial and critical blockbuster. Any effort (money) to make it more than that is minimally unnecessary. Lets call it diminishing returns. Will the 200,000 MMO neck beard pvp snobs complain on niche MMO forums/gaming articles? Absolutely.

Will it matter? Not one bit.

Bullshit. The worst PvP games are games designed from the ground up as PvP-centric, while the best PvP games have traditionally been PvE games. The only exceptions to this rule were EVE and to a lesser extent Shadowbane and DaoC.

Ultima Online, Asheron's Call (Darktide), and Everquest are probably three of the greatest PvP games ever made... and not a single one was designed from the foundation up for pvp.

GW2, Warhammer, AoC, Darkfall all designed from the ground up to for PvP. All fucking sucked with their shitty ass intanced garbage or lack of meaningful rewards or a loot system.

The reason UO, AC, EVE, SB, & EQ were so successful in the PvP area was something called meaningful death and a good loot/reward system. You actually got to obtain gear from your enemy. Also, the PvP took place in a persistant world and not a fucking stupid ass instance.

What a shocking concept.
So stop peddling your bullshit.

Something else to ponder is PvP games are light on every other facet of gameplay, and that's why they fail. They think people want to queue up for shitty ass instances, if I did I'd play counterstrike not an MMORPG. The most fun PvP games have supporting pillars such as an awesome sandbox economy (Ultima Online/EVE Online), great loot systems (Asheron's Call), or fairly decent PvE (8 man groups in DAOC are probably the most fun, sociable, and enjoyable leveling in an MMORPG.)

And that's why this game will suck. There's no reason to PvP. Everything about it seems like another mediocre fucking instanced mess with no point. Even if the gameplay kicks ass, it will probably go down the same path as GW2. Developers need to learn that MMORPGs are more enjoyable when the player is put in a harsh world and forced to survive. They band together to win, to defeat their enemies, to overcome and it's that social aspect that drives the game. Logging in and pushing a "queue" button and being thrown in the exact. fucking. same. capture. the. flag. match that you've already played a thousand times, only to kill people and achieve absolutely dick for it... is. not. fun. Like I've said, if I wanted to do that then there are far better options: Counterstrike, Chivalry Medieval Warfare, etc.

People play MMORPGs for the social aspect, to play with friends, and for the persistent motherfucking world. Why are these fucking douchefucks so insistent on removing ALL THREE of those aspects? It's no wonder the genre has gone to absolute dick.

If a publisher wants to create a successful MMORPG then instead of hiring designers like Matt Fior, they need to hire a psychiatrist such as the modern equivalent of Sigmund Freud.

Study human motivations; what we find fun, enjoyable, and what evolutionary instincts drive us. Unfortunately, fat, inept, incompetent fucks such as Matt get the job and blow hundreds of millions that could have been better allocated.

They are two different dev houses. They will continue to make single player versions of Elder Scrolls and Fallout considering how many copies they sell of those titles.

Yes. It's absurd to think that TESO'S performance will have any influence on Bethesda's decision to continue to produce immensely popular single player RPGs that they've been making for over twenty years.

Yea, just like Bioware keeps making quality single player rpgs despite TOR. I can see Zenimax "bring the Skyrim team on board" both for PR and manpower and cannibalize Bethesda throughout the winter in an effort to push TESO into the mediocre ratings (up from terribad). Let's hope that fear doesnt become reality, I want my Elder Scrolls 6, and without any MMO taint.

Wow my statement really made you mad. The funny thing is I agree with you and it's actually what my statement meant but you must have had a bad day. All those games you mentioned were at the beginning of MMO's so of course at the beginning of a genre games that were meant to be played one way end up working out to be played in another way. Now that MMOs are mainstream and tests have been taken to show what a real PvP game requires to make it meaningful a developer hasto build it from the ground to be a PvP gamewhich in turn would have the features you mentioned.

None of the people working on this have ever, or will ever work on TES single player games. It's a different company making their own game and throwing "The Elder Scrolls" in the title.
