I had fun in the hour I played, obviously the game needs a lot of work but it really is expected for a beta.

I'm gonna disagree with the goon consensus and say this game is better than I expected. At the very least it's not particularly WoW like and that's always a nice surprise. The combat is pretty boring just like every Elder Scrolls game ever made, but at least it's not quite as janky as Guild Wars 2 for example. Maybe that's just because I'm using melee in first-person.

I liked that after being dumped on whatever island (I started as an Orc) there was a quest thread but it wasn't completely in your face about it. The quest NPC gave me a choice of three different quests to follow, and each one led to a completely different part of the island. And as I was wandering around doing these quests, I'd stumble upon NPCs who had quests to offer as well, but it wasn't like I was being steered around a theme park ride like every other MMO.

I'm not saying the combat is good, but as someone who doesn't usually enjoy MMO combat, I still prefer this to WoW, Rift, or any of the other MMOs that use a more explicit tab targeting system.

Gimme the placebo, doc; if mediocrity is how it's going to be, then I at least want to be comfortable.

Edit: Might as well give some more opinions, while I'm at it. For the most part, I'm ok with how the game looks. It's not groundbreaking, but it doesn't make me want to look away with how ugly it is. Sure, Bleakrock was a pretty bleak rock, but revisiting Morrowind is much more visually interesting. I'd say it looks good, "for an MMO"(TM). The UI, on the other hand, is pretty gross.

I do like the skill system, though. At first glance, at least, it offers some good customization options. I hope it lives up to what I see.

Would I pay $60 + subscription for this? Nah. Would I pay $60 if it was B2P? Maybe. Would I play this if it was F2P? Yeah, I don't see why not. It's been a decent time sink so far tonight.

Combat in this game feels like combat in an MMO.

I'm enjoying the quests, especially the multiple choice ones. And some of the skill systems are pretty cool. The whole morphing thing caught me off guard and I like it.

Games been fun and way exceeded my expectations. Probably because I went in thinking it was going to be an absolutely terrible MMO, and it's a pretty alright one instead. I'm sorry to those of you who expected MMO Skyrim, but you are kind of dumb.

Yeah, I'm with the "it's actually pretty ok" crowd. I don't know where the hate is coming from. There are a lot of MMOs out there that are a lot worse than this, and it's actually pretty fun. I should state that I only really played Skyrim. I've never had a ton invested in the TES franchise, so the combat and whatnot really don't matter as much to me. It's a little floaty, but it's workable and can be tightened.

The biggest things for me will be how the later levels handle with things like PVP and whatnot. I'm also not sure if I like not having instanced dungeons since it takes out a ton of the social aspect of playing an MMO. Most of the other stuff is great, though. A lot of what made Skyrim a good single-player game just wouldn't translate to an MMO format, and I'm liking what they've tweaked to make it work so far. The world is large, you can find quests just from wandering around, and the players are customizable enough. I'd like some more options/branches with skills and whatnot, but that's about it.

I probably won't buy this straight out of the gate since the only game I'll subscribe to is WoW for a couple months a year, but if it goes F2P or Buy Once format, it'll definitely get a longer look from me.

There's tons more, but why are we posting other forum opinions here? Plenty of people here have made up their own minds. Either you like it or you don't, who cares what the Goons say?

So I downloaded this build and played, literally nothing is different from when I played before. I was hoping things would havedhave improved and I would pick it up come launch but with Wildstar literally being better in every single aspect I see no reason why I wouldn't just sink all my free time into that instead of both.

Hey, you need to check out this game shop in Lakeville, MN.

World of Games. It is AWESOME. Customer service is fantastic. Wish it wasn't so far away from Maple Grove. They have mint condition Atari 2600 games in their boxes. Every older system you could ever desire, and PC games in their original boxes dating back to Kings Quest 2.
