We're getting a Jimmy John's. Is that a good thing? I'm hoping they can put our pathetic Subway out of its misery.

I ate at least one JJ's every week for the last 4 years (it's what we ordered for orientation every week at my last job).

Jimmy Johns is impressive for 2 reasons. 1 - speed. Anyone who can put a sandwich in my hand before the terminal can even process my credit card deserves respect. The second reason is the consistency. I have never have a bad JJ's. Ever. Doesn't exist. Doesn't matter which one I go to either, every JJs you get is the same.

Are they S tier? No. Are they my first pick given the choice of anything? No, I have a local sub shop that's been around for 40+ years and kills it, so you can't compete with that. But do they make a reasonable sandwich for a reasonable price? Yes.

Everyone creams their shit over JM's, but that shit is overpriced for what it is and their drink selection is ass.

Oh, and here's the secret no one knows about. Jimmy Johns Triple Chunk cookies are some of the best cookies you'll ever eat. The fuckers are 400 calories. They're insanely good.

Does Jimmy John's only have one cheese still? And like two bread choices?

As said, still way better than Subway, but even my basic ass sandwiches require occasionally being able to mix up the bread or cheese. And isn't it the most boring of all cheeses (American cheese doesn't count, it doesn't belong on a sandwich), provolone?

Yeah, they used to, for a very brief time, have a wheat version of their normal bread, but that's gone, now it's just the sliced wheat, the normal white, and the unwich.

It's definitely one of those things where if you don't like what they offer, you're not gonna like it, but they do one thing, and they do it pretty fucking good, for how big they are.

We have a sub chain out here in arizona called cheba but. That shit is amazing. I always get the 5-0. All the meat of the pig on it. Only problem is that you don't know how big the sub will be. It's always staffed by the biggest pot heads. If they are super stoned you get a massive sub. If they aren't you get an exact proportioned sub.

The one I always feel nostalgic for from when I lived in California was Togo's. So damn good but I just looked it up and my go-to order, large #9 Pastrami sandwich, is fucking $18.69 including tax JUST for the sandwich.

imo sandwhich shop is mainly about finding one you like. I have been to most of them outside regional stuff that isnt in my city and I can go to one jersey mikes and hate it, but go to a different one and its good. Same with subway. Port of subs etc. At least when it comes to franchise chains. Seems about the same with pizza places.

The real goal is find a local shop that isn't part of some national/regional chain, a city based one is fine. They tend to have much better quality and service.

Yeah, absolutely.

My local place serves this. This isn't a promo picture, this is actually what your subs look like when they come out.

My local sandwich shop (was) a train wreck of epic proportions. Search patriot sandwich denton if you wanna read some wtf stories. Sandwiches were also... lets just say sub par, though still better than subway. This was from their own promotion to give you an idea.

There's no local sandwich shop here but even Walmart's deli has better subs for less money than Subway.

It's getting hard to find a good local deli nowadays. There was an amazing one close-ish that closed during the pandemic. It was that old school NYC style where they pile meat so high you can't fit it in your mouth. Reasonable prices, too. I know of one good local one still, but it's a pretty far drive so I can't frequent it as much as I'd like.

Too many mediocre sandwich shop chains running them out of business. The best of the mediocre ones around here is Potbelly. Firehouse is a close second, I think.

Definitely my favorite chain sandwich, and for years I went there at least once a week. All the employees and owner knew me, I'd get special discounts, extra portions, even bought one of those refill cups that you could use for a month for like 99c, and they let me use it for years. And then prices went up, that particular store went out of business, and now I haven't been there in probably 5 years because I can get a similar sandwich from Raley's (grocery store) for less. And I can buy my groceries while I'm there.

One thing people never realize too: Togo's large is 9", not 12" like everywhere else.

Every time I go to Potbelly, I'm sad I did. I want to like it so much, because it seems like it's everything I want - toasted sandwiches with good ingredients, and they serve strawberry shakes. But I get this wimpy fucking sub I paid $13 for, and my shake is whipped with so much air the cup weighs nothing and it's topped with a 4 day old cookie.

Place is shit.
