Rhode Island is actually pretty awesome for pizza. We have the most pizza places per capita of any state, and you can get just about any style of pizza you want if you're willing to drive 30 minutes.

You are correct that Uno is not real Chicago Pizza. They suck. I went to Giordano's alone last time I passed through Chicago and I didn't want the waiter to come back and witness what I had done afterwards. Whether or not people think it's "real" pizza, it's so god damn good.

For those who went to Giordano's, did you get deep dish or stuffed? I always prefered stuffed myself.

So I was wrong all about all pizza being the same. I went to some fancy-shmancy restaurant last night called Range; apparently it's done by some Top Chef star named Brian Voltaggio. Anyway, the pizza was absolutely fucking awful. It was paper thin--so much that when you picked it up it just flopped down, completely unable to support the weight of the 1 tiny piece of sausage on it, sparsely topped, and the crust around the edges was so hard and crunchy that the jagged edges of it hurt the insides of my mouth as I ate.
Never order "artisinal" pizza, shit always tastes bad and has stupid ingredients that make no sense.

I found out Portland has just opened a true deep dish pizza joint, gonna have to check it out sometime soon.

The only things that belong on a pizza are meat product(s), cheese, and tomato sauce. I'll occasionally give a pass to various peppers.

Always stuffed. Giordano's is super good. We have a couple very legit stuffed Chicago style places here in SF too, but I'm not sure it's as good as Giordano's. Patxi's and Little Star are here. I've never had Little Star but I have had Patxi's. People say Little Star is best so I gotta try it. There are a lot of places I gotta try.

People will argue that 'Chicago Style' pizza is not real pizza, but that doesn't matter here. I think you'd enjoy it, McC.

Our first time we had it, we went to a local Chicago chain called Giordano's. Whether or not it's the best in Chicago is also immaterial here.

We ordered a medium pepperoni and mushroom, and the waitress asked if we had more people coming (it was just the two of us.) We said no, and she recommended the small. I was dubious to say the least but we said 'ok'. I could only eat two of the six pieces, and I think my wife, although skinny as fuck can put down some food when she's hungry, only ate one. I'm a big boy, and I was filled to the gills with two pieces. I couldn't believe it.
I'd love to see a pic of one of these "small" pizzas with something in the picture for a sense of scale. I don't think I have ever seen a pizza in my entire life where 2 slices could even remotely fill me up.

*Edit*
Found these 2 pics online from customer photos. What is appealing about this? Why put what looks like entire wheel of cheese on a pizza? Gross.

Damn that looks good.

I've only had what's picture above, never had the stuffed. I really need to get back to Chicago.

If you ever get a chance order a Panzerotti. It's basically a pizza inside a huge fucking hot pocket made of fried dough.

I love the idea of stuffed and deep dish pizza. I just can't get into it. I have tried it so many times, but I don't enjoy it. Too much, maybe. I like the thin pizza crusts.

Pecan Turtle Blizzards are available at Dairy Queen right now. Go get one if you have never had one. Its the second best blizzard, #1 being Pumpkin Pie.

I wanted to try this but when I went last week all they had was the shitty chips ahoy blizzard.

This will probably sound blasphemous to pizza connoisseurs, but Papa Murphys take-&-bake males a crazy good pan/deep dish pizza. They put just enough oil in the pan that the thick crust gets really good and crunchy despite its thickness.

It's easily the best deep dish from a national chain

Yes, because it's clearly meant to be taken seriously. Not only are you easily trolled on forums, but by fast food menus as well.

I had a good time when I was traveling to Phoenix for work and ended up at Oregano's in Scottsdale. Pretty good Chicago Style pizza, in my opinion. I don't have much to compare it to though..

It's not pretty but this is one of the most authentic italian pizzas you can get in the US.

It tastes a lot better than it looks.
