The problem with this is most root beer I see in machines is Barq's and that is shit tier root beer.

This depends, if you find one of those coke machines that has the touch screen on it and measures the syrup out correctly then fountain coke is awesome...however I usually get Raspberry Sprite because it's awesome.

Actually I also quite enjoy pepsi. Not a huge coke fan, but I do like fountain cokes at fast food places/movies.

Just no.... Overly sweet root beers are the worst. Barq's is the only palatable one. Seriously, like Fanta Birch Beer is the next best... and it's Fanta...
I very, very rarely drink soda. Like maybe 3-4 times a year. The only time I ever make an exception is for Dr. Pepper and Orange Fanta. Mostly the latter because they have it at Raising Canes. But I usually just get a bottle of water with my combo there. Soda + food makes me feel like an enormous bloated lard.

For caffeine, I agree but sometimes on a hot day, you need an ice cold soda pop.

Barq's root beer used to be good about 10 years ago. They must have changed their formula because it doesn't have the same bite.
If I had to pick the one root beer that isn't some fancy brand I would go with IBC in a bottle.
But IBC is a fancy brand root beer. I'm sure the cost per ounce is like 5x more than Barqs/A&W.
Also since I'm a tailer trash kid trapped in an upper middle class body when I was a kid what I'd do is make my poor man's floats which consisted of Sunkist + 2% milk mixed together.
