Im not sure if its because of a CGI budget but they could easily make a wall full of ice to separate the cops from just shooting them and then also make the floor ice to mess up the flash. But no, we have a city full of cops doing jack shit, holding some stupid shields that didnt protect half their body and flash running around at full speed not even touching them

There was some derpy stuff this episode that others have mentioned (cops standing around doing fuckall, timer on the chair bomb, Flash not punching the guys when he was clearly able to outrun their ice/fire blasts). I kept telling myself that everyone was playing it safe during the final confrontation because they knew Captain Cold and Heatwave had kidnapped Dr. Snow and everyone was afraid that killing the two rogues would lead to her death.

Anyway, you can't think too much about these kinds of shows. It was still an awesome episode and, like someone said before, the banter and interactions between the characters is just fantastic. I was wondering if they were going to try working some of these goofy villain names into the show or change them to sound a bit less campy, but Sisco provides a great way for them to do it.

I think my two favorite moments of this episode were both from Dr. Wells:

Dr. Wells responding to Barry and Sisco's naming of the Reverse Flash with something like "I kind of like it."

Dr. Wells starting to get out of his chair to rescue Barry when Barry wasn't running from the missile/drone during training.

Yeah, I took issue with that too. Well, a bunch of things really, but it is still a great show and a lot of fun, so who cares?

I enjoyed the extended Prison Break reunion quite a bit. Should have had one of them make an inside joke about prisons before they got rescued though.
Would be hilarious if "sis" is Sarah Wayne Callies.

The entire fight scene was way too WTF. The first couple episodes the fights were close because he was stupid and still learning and/or the opponent's were better fighters. This fight was close because...why? He made no attempt to attack or disarm them while just zooming by over and over. And the cops see them shooting the buildings etc and think "We need to back up!" instead of "We need to shoot them!"

This is probably the first time where one of the climactic fight scenes really annoyed me this much. They made no attempt to give a real reason why it should have gone like it did. "Cancel out the guns" was fucking retarded. Know what else will cancel out the guns? Punching them in the mouth at 600mph.

But at least even when the cheese gets too much to bear it still looks very cool. I don't think I'll ever stop being impressed by the effects on the speed stuff. Or if it goes downhill a bit we'll know the show is losing favor with the brass paying for it.

Oh and I really liked the part with Wells about to leave the chair and Barry from the drone. I was back and forth on Tom Cavanagh as the character a bit early on but he's totally won me over. He's really playing the role of mentor who is pushing Barry and willing to do whatever it takes for the sake of the future well.

yeah, i wasnt too concerned with the cops not shooting or flash not just yoinking the guns out of their hands in an 800mph blur. you gotta look at this show from the aspect of it being a simplistic comic book adaption. nobody questions why in the avengers they put a dangerous person like loki or the hulk on a secret flying carrier. we just accept it because a flying carrier is cool as fuck and putting such wild unknown properties on something that fragile is something they do. stop being so nitpicky about this stuff and be happy you get to see your favorite superheroes doing their thing.

I did like the point where Heat Wave commented on the fact Snart had suggested he learn every element of the heat gun. So, regardless of the weapons being returned to Cisco they now presumably know how to produce new weapons for themselves.

That was a nice touch. Obviously being gadget-based villains they will need a steady supply of such gadgets in order to keep going on. It will be interesting when one of the metahumans or other clearly super gadgety types shows up in Star City

I have to admit to seeing Batman in these episodes way too much. I thought he was on the comic Barry found in his red and yellow (nice touch!) backpack but on closer scrutiny (12.07) it turned out to be Space Ghost.

Although, I'll take a Hanna Barbera cartoon turned DC hero as well!

I was never a huge Flash fan growing up so I really don't know much about the character. Those who are, what do you feel about the casting of Barry Allen? I think that actor pulls of an amazing job at being nerdy but likeable without being an annoying douche. I'm curious if this is in the spirit of the comics or not.

The Flash I predominantly read was Wally West to be fair but from what I have read of Barry Allen and seen on the various DC movies I feel that, while he doesn't necessarily possess the right physique, he does capture the excitable, wise-cracking nature and haunted, serious aspects of the comic book character.

For a good introduction to Barry Allen fear flash rebirth.

This episode was pretty bad for the reasons mentioned. Kind of assumed this sort of thing will happen from time to time with how powerful Flash is.

The whole deal with working so hard to make the guns cancel out, I kind of saw it as proof that barry's not too smart, or maybe that he tends to get hyper focused. So I can let that go. I had a lot more problem with the cops not shooting the bad guys while they were pre-occupied. Then they doubled down when eddie finally decided to take action, and his action was to run in with a fucking shield. Maybe it's the writers who get hyper-focused and aren't too bright. I don't think it would have taken long to establish a plausible reason for the cops to not shoot. All I ask from a show like this is a bone every now and then to help me maintain my suspension of disbelief.

It happens on a nigh on constant basis in the comics. You just can't realistically portray that character with the abilities he has and create a compelling story unless he's fighting against the reverse Flash and he can't do that every week.

I wish he could though.

I think the casting is absolutely great for this show and I much prefer every aspect of it to Arrow because Green Arrow fucking sucks.

I can't claim to being a fan in any sense of Green Arrow but I loved the way they expressed his total hatred of Superman in the Dark Knight Returns. The guy only has one arm and yet he's hanging upside by his legs while he draws back the bowstring with his teeth...

The Flash we have in this show is essentially Wally West with Barry Allen's backstory of being a police scientist. Barry Allen was killed off in 1985 and only relatively recently came back from the dead, so most of what people would consider modern super hero storytelling and characterization happened with Wally. So having Barry be super young with a bright eyed innocence to him works well.

It is worth noting that Barry Allen was a police scientist WAAAYYY before the era of CSI and making forensic investigation super popular.

The only problem I have with the casting is Barry is in his early 20's and so is the actor, but he seriously looks about 16=P

But he really does pull off the role well so it's not anactualproblem, just an observation. He does the goofy kid-like wonder and reactions amazingly well and even the dramatic bits.

The weekly people aren't always good, but that's to be expected on this type of show on this type of network. I'm just happy they pull off almost everything so well.

Still not sure how it will age though. With him just getting more and more powerful. They can't possibly afford the kind of budget it will take to make credible threats keep escalating.

As I said the comics are always just ignoring it completely. I read one a few weeks back where he was chasing some chick hanging out the back of an aeroplane and she escaped him. A dude that can run faster than light was outrun by an aeroplane taking off.

You just have to suspend disbelief and roll with it.

The cops sitting there was terrible, pretty much ruined the episode for me. I'm more excited for shade or mirror master. I think they should have made captain cold more of a stratigest then 2 idiots walking down the street shooting

Also piper looks like a much Better villian than cold or heat wave
I was just reading JL #38, and they explained that all bullets near Captain Cold are caught in a frost aura, and lose momentum, falling to the ground. But they didn't touch on that on the show yesterday.
