There isn't any need to wait and listen for it. It's really apparent and, honestly, out-of-place. My wife was like, "Why did that goblin scream like a human?"

Went to see Cirque in 3D and snuck into HFR Hobbit for a minute.. Immediately want to go see it in that format now.

Has anyone seen it at a real Imax theater (the ones with the five story high screens)? We have one here in Ft Lauderdale. I am trying to decide seeing on the big Imax or the small HFR screen.

Two chapters left in the book. Radagast was mentioned one time in passing. Where the fuck did they pull out this retard with a rabbit sleigh, who nurses dumb little critters back to life, and oh, saves the groups by doing other stupid shit. Is this in the "other works"? Also the eagles not just carrying them to lonely mountain is BS bc the eagles showed up in the battle

Just in case it hasn't been posted yet, Whitest Kids U Know take on Gandalf an his bullshit eagles from LOTR.

"The book is more elaborate on this point than the film, and Peter Jackson also explains the reason during the audio commentary on the dvd. The Eagles did not take sides in the War of the Ring until the end, so they would not have assisted Frodo when he started his quest. This is similar to the Ents, who only participated when they felt they were drawn in by Saruman. The Eagles are also very proud creatures, who will not allow themselves to be used as just a means of transportation. The Eagle, Gwahir, that rescued Gandalf (Ian McKellen) from the tower of Saruman (Christopher Lee) did so as a special service to Gandalf, whom he knew personally (Gandalf had previously saved his life). In addition to this, there are allusions that while Sauron was still in power, the Eagles would have struggled getting to Mount Doom, not least because of the wraiths on their fell-beasts and other dark creatures and powers that Sauron had at his disposal. Sending Frodo on the back of an eagle into Mount Doom would have been effectively air-mailing the ring to Sauron. A ground-based approach was decided to be much more effective and appropriate. Finally, the ring corrupts the proud much more easily than the humble. While there is no proof that the ring has the same effect on an Eagle as it does for men, there may have been too much risk in tempting the extremely proud Eagles."

Well yeah, the obvious answer is it would have been a very short book.

"Throw the ring in the fire." Frodo obliged. "OMG it has some words on it." Gandalf then whispered to a grasshopper. A big eagle came out of the sky and flew the ring and dropped it in some fire somewhere else far far away. Sam then married the chubby but big bosomed girl hobbit.

How about all the weird additions with Radagast and the Necromancer? I think the Necromancer was mentioned once in the book, Radagast was mentioned once in passing, and isn't any more notable than a less than impressive fart. I'm not bitching, but some of the parts that sucked the most in the movie were things that were not in the book. It did make me want to try playing a necro in EQ, but I'm not a masochist.

Well, it's barely mentioned in the book, but when Gandalf leaves the dwarves, he goes and meet up with the White Council to chase the Necromancer from Dol Guldur.
It's pretty important as the Necromancer is in fact Sauron and when he's removed from Dol Guldur he goes back to Mordor.

And of course PJ intends to show in the movie, thus the added exposition of the Necromancer/White Council (which Radagast is a part of).

Is that in the one of the supplemental books?

The necromancer wasn't really a disproportionately huge part of the movie like Radagast or the giants though, nor did it seem overly out of place and shoehorned.

Finally saw this. It was "okay". Way too many chase scenes that felt like fillers. Loved the new lore (never read the books). Honestly, I felt it was LotRs meets 3-stooges. The fight scenes were so cheesy - maybe that's the point. One thing I was happy to see was that things were actually slashed / decapitated. It was nice to see some actual "gore" - even if minor.

The goblin king definitely had a ballsack for a chin.. including at least one large testee but I think I saw two.

Golem stole the show - the riddle part was probably the best section of the movie.

Either way, I'll see the other 2 - hell I sat through Matrix 3 after seeing the 2nd one.

I saw it here in Atlanta in Imax HFR!! Looked amazing!! The only scene that felt weird to me was the Radagast bunny sleigh ride. I am going to take my best friend and his little girl to see it again Saturday!

Minor nitpicks aside, it's a damn fun movie. After reading some initial early reviews I was almost concerned that we had another Star Wars Episode I on our hands. Thankfully, it's much better than that travesty of cinema was.

Having just read the book again prior to the movie being released, the only complaints I had were related to the altercations Jackson made to various parts of the original story (the troll scene, escape from the goblin king, the additional of Azog). Otherwise I thought the movie was solid, including the parts involving the White Council and Radagast.

I happened to be on Amazon and stumbled upon the various LEGO The Hobbit sets they released. It looks like we know when we will see Legolas. I hope they don't have him to get to involved, because that was easily one of my favorite parts of the book.
