Technically by Liberal standards he didn't lie to Ellie at the end.
They were raided, just by him. There could have easily been more Ellies that failed, so not a lie he just didn't have the facts.
So Liberal Joel was telling the Biden truth!

Anyways, if Marlene knew the baby was born in odd circumstances such as an infected mother at birth why not recreate THOSE conditions and try to find out how she got immunity once they realized she had it. Clearly not trusting the science and instead wants to rabies test a brain after the fact.

Well the rest of the cells in her body would clearly be worthless, gotta lobotomize. But the story doesn't work any other way.

Also pretty funny to think it proliferated through the entire body and into the baby that fast, even though it takes hours for it to actually take over the hosts brain.

Something something Spock quote.

Joel's the likeable anti-hero. He did wrong by everyone but right by him and MAYBE Ellie though it's pretty much hinted that she would've given herself up to try and save humanity. So he's not quite the protagonist but he's more than just flawed.

I like that her origin is just Blade though. Fucking fungal Daywalker. I will say the actress that played Anna looked just like Bella to a creepy extent.

My main complaint with the finale is that when I was suddenly informed that Ellie is prepped for surgery my only thought was "Wait, wut? Already? Where's the other 90% of the game's story?". This meshed with Ellie's "everything we've been through to get here" comment, which elicited a similar impression. One minute you were at START, then there was a ton of backflashes and full blown filler episodes, and next thing you know you are at END. By the time you reach the end of the game, you really do feel like you battled your way across hell and back to get to where you were. The show really failed to convey the arduous trek stated by Ellie, and lived through in the game. It's like they did the Hollywood version of the wall 'sploit in PoF to get to Cazic. I honestly thought we wouldn't be getting to the equivalent of game one ending until at least season 2, so they could milk this for multi-seasons without having to pull at GoT.

IMHO, it's also fairly obvious that Pedro will be retired for tranbo or the equivalent. My memory of the game is far from perfect, but I felt they definitely went the extra mile to transcend a motive of fatherly love into "callous brutality". The way he coldly executes the Firefly leader chick, make him seem psychotic, focus on the doctor's blown out brains, the lie to Ellie-- imho are all methods to make tranbo golf more palatable to the average viewer.

episodes 1-5 were great and I'd probably rewatch them.

6-9 were ok, i'm sure if you never played the game they would flow better but the game was a lot better than the show after episode 5. The story imo just doesn't work without the constant dread of the infected and too many episodes after 5 didn't feel like a world where humanity was past the brink of collapse.

Joel's rampage through the hospital was just silly, weird time for the show to go all in on video games.

season 2 & 3 have already been confirmed to tell the story of TLOU2... bummer

The finale had more viewers than House of the Dragon finale, kinda crazy

The last few episodes the pacing was all over the place. The entire trek to the actual fireflies was the most tense part of the game with the most infected and there were... basically none in the show

Let me spoiler this off-topic "take it to DM" post. Just a bit of fact checking for '70s chilean politics...
Salvador Allende was a Pro Castro Lenninist politician, hardly a standard bearer for democracy and human rights.
He was the antithesis of a Leninist, as he worked for a societal transition within the confines of the existing democratic system. He was no revolutionary trying to topple the current State to impose the dictatorship of the proletariat. It also seems like a weird take to paint him as Pro Castro. It's safe to assume he was Anti-Batista and he did reopen diplomatic relations with Cuba, but that does not make him suddenly a cheerleader for everything Castro said and did. Castro, while certainly sympathetic to Allende's platform, was also critical of it.
Socialism and Big Government are the gods that failed in the 20th century, no ideology has been responsible for so many crimes and murders.

Considering the amount of people murdered by their governments in the 20th century its amazing how people are so willing to trust their governments with bigger powers in the 21th century…..
This is a weird mix of tautology, wrong labeling and logical fallacy. Cool.

Allende was overthrown by a military coup in 1973, thus probably forestalling the usual catalog of nation-wrecking Leninist horrors — slave-labor camps, famines, etc. — the international Left was outraged. Pinochet while often brutal and corrupt in the way of military dictatorships, restored Chile’s economic health and eventually stepped aside to let the nation return to democracy.
Guy who did nothing wrong was on the brink of becoming a terrible person, I swear! Ridiculous. Allende's three years in power came with a number of successes and a number of problems. Most notably, while the inflation was initially controlled , it got ultimately out of hand, so, even if the wealth inequality got greatly reduced, the economy was in deep trouble. Macroeconomics not being an exact science it's very difficult to know what was the impact of the involvement of the US in the affairs of Chile, like pouring millions into the coffers of Allende's political opponents and financially supporting lengthy trucker strikes that crippled the primary and secondary sectors.
It must be remembered that Pinochet was one of the few dictators in history to quit the job while the going was good.

He voluntarily gave up his powers and restored democracy, something no dictator had done since Lucius Cornellius Sulla retired in 78 BC.
Totally factually incorrect. Constitutional reforms made him organize a referendum which failure would mean he would have to step down. It's unclear whether he miscalculated his actual support or miscalculated how much he could rig the results (as he did in the past), but the referendum failed. Upon this outcome, he tried to find different ways to stay in power, but, as he had exhausted his political capital, the police and other members of the military junta refused to help him craft this "auto-coup".

We should all be in favor of allowing Dictators to retire unmolested and allowing them to happily live out their days like Plutarch tells us Sulla did “ consorting with actresses, harpists, and theatrical people, drinking with them on couches all day long."

Socialist Dictators lacking a classical education and knowledge of history just keep on murdering till they get a bullet or die of old age.
Friendly reminder we are talking about Allende, whose biggest crime is to have nationalized the copper mine industry (that the junta never re-privatized), and Pinochet who had thousands of political opponents killed and tens of thousands tortured and put in political internment camps.

His motives are 100% acceptable. You seem to lack reading comprehension or suffer a strong attachment to the character from playing the game. I come at this only from viewing the show. I was cheering him on all the way through the hospital.
I would put a bullet in your head 100 out of 100 times if you tried to take my child and kill them to knowingly cure cancer. Not only that, I would murder everyone in your family and their families too, and I would do it happily for the exact same reason. I don't care what that makes me look like to anyone else. You would only take my child over my very cold, very dead body.

Joel is a goddamn hero.

Can't wait for what people claim will be season 2. Globofags will cheer on Twatter but this isn't 2022 Twatter no more. The absolute tranny rape will be glorious.

Post apocalypse I'd do it just for fun, don't even need a reason. My general rule post world going to shit is called 'the buffer zone'. If it's within line of sight of me, it moves, and it isn't someone I know, it dies.

Enjoyed the show a lot for what it was and having no knowledge of the game. Like every show it had its ups and downs. My biggest complaint with the whole season was the lack of infected. Those episodes were a lot more fun and kept you on the edge of your seat. My girlfriend and I both thought it was funny how Joel just smoked everyone in the hospital like it was nothing. The finale felt like it ended abrubtley and didnt feel like an actual season finale cliffhanger.

lol what?

the man was a hero on a righteous mission to save the child under his protection

If you reacted to that hospital bloodbath with anything besides vicarious glee there is something fundamentally broken in you

Video game is much better.

I’m trying to figure out how that would be possible if the show is so close to the game as most have said. I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the entire thing.

Is the gameplay like super great?

I told my gf at the beginning of the season that the girl reminded me of Ashley Johnson. I didn't realize Ashley Johnson did the voice in the game (I didn't play it), so when she showed up I got excited.

As far as the moral aspects of this episode, I did ask her if he's a hero or a villain after he executed what I presume to be one of the last brain surgeons in the world. She said hero. But this is his story and everyone's the hero of their own story, right? If we had been watching from the Firefly perspective this whole time, I'm not sure his murders would seem as justifiable. I don't really care...I enjoyed the season, but it's an interesting thought.

I do feel like the ending was a bit weak, though. Awkward conversation and him lying to her face. Cut to credits. Not playing the game, I'm not sure what a better point in the story would have been to end the season, but it felt weird to me.

A few things:

1) the plot points of the show are very close to the game, but it misses a massive amount of time spent in between those points where you save Ellie's life countless times and you buddy cop your way through a cross country adventure.

2) Joel is much less if a pussy and far more stoic in the game, but the game is long enough that you get to see the very slow thawing of his personality toward Ellie and experience it without all the ancillary character bullshit.

3) the post-apocolyptic setting in the show is nothing compared to experiencing it in the game, it gives a much better feeling of humanity being on it's last legs without much hope and barely holding on

I didn't play the game, but that sequence was 100% a level from a FPS game. Don't think it could have been unintentional.
