It still has a bit over a month to go, but this sort of peeked my interest. Seems a solid effort to get in on the Walking Dead success. Can't say however I have ever watched a TNT series. Have any ever been worth a fuck?

This comes on prior to Falling Skies series on Sunday night. Still not sure if it will be worth a shit, but here is the old thread anyways.
13 minutes in and shits already exploding. At least it has shipgasms.

The cheese is strong with this one. They used bs flashbacks and OOC comments to pull on the sappy heart and guilt strings of the viewer. They then had previously efficient military personnel suddenly turn stupid so that another character could rebound off them and sound heroic (and possibly a tired trope mutiny in the future), and then throw in a wtf conspiracy at the end. The explosions were ok but overall BSG this is not.

+1 though for killing the black guy first, gotta stick with the classics.

Well I am glad someone commented besides me at least.
I didn't think it was all that bad actually. Yes there was a million things done wrong, but goddamn I love warships and it is almost worth watching it each week for that alone.
#1 How many missiles can a ship take to the face and not be damaged?
#2 When you are in a contaminated area isn't cans and bags and shit contaminated as well?
#3 What's with the mileage on this thing, wasn't it supposed to be like the new modern warship?
#4 Wasn't the Russian dude infected they brought on ship, or just face fucked with frostbite?
#5 When he called the entire crew to deck for a debriefing , wasn't only like 30 people there?
#6 I lost count of the destruction, I saw what 5 helos, a nuclear blast , a black man shoot himself in the dead and hundreds of dead people the first pilot, followed by ships, planes and thousands more in the preview. GG BAY.

To me it was still entertaining enough to watch it again next week. I'm curious to follow this on ratings. The acting was actually acceptable for a pilot.

Looked up some ship facts( the one in the show is fictional but it is a real guided missile cruiser used in filming called the USS Halsey DDG-97.

I liked it enough to keep watching. Other than laughing at fuses that can be kept from blowing with sheer moxy, I wasn't too bothered by the inconsistencies. Nothing is ever 100% accurate on these shows, and at least we get a ton of warship porn, which is almost as good as airplane porn, so I'll continue to watch. I also like many of the actors, and Rhona Mitra is nice to look at, so good enough for me. Actually, I take that back...it was much better than I expected it to be in fact.

One thing to note is it was not being hit with anti ship missiles even a normal anti tank missile is unlikely to do siginficant damage to a naval ship. The armor is thick enough and the ship is big enough that even if the missile makes a breach its unlikely to have enough reach to hit anything vital. So it is likely it could take more than a few of a hell fire equivalent type missile. After the first missile was launched though only TV that allowed the rest of the helos to survive more than a few seconds as the phalanx guns would have tracked and engaged and ripped them to pieces in seconds once the free fire was triggered.

Edit side note bagged food I would be a bit qestionable about but canned food could easily be put through the decontamination washes used to clean the crew.

Ya I watched it again last night and the CGI used was kind of crappy. Of the 3 I saw hitting the destroyer, only 1 I think actually did. The other 2 were shot down point blank before impact.
The good thing about Bay doing this is the military letting him use 2 real destroyers to film it. Of course Bay is required to show the Navy in good light as a result, which I have no issue with.

I read a interesting article earlier detailing how hard it is to film a episode in 10 days on a Destroyer with crew+250 film crew in already cramped quarters and setting up green screens around the ship( much of it was filmed in port, the surrounding is green screened in ). Some crazy shit there the Navy went out of their way on. It is a awesome destroyer though and the one used last night was only commissioned 9 years ago. Still being built in low capacity even with the new holy shit rail gun stealth design being built nonstop right now.

I noticed he said 3 billion last night in the show, the true cost was around 1.9 billion per one. Not sure why they messed up that fact, unless factoring in crew value/weapon value.

I've ALWAYS been a ship/sub freak since I could read, I guess I was forgetting just how armored they are now compared to WW2/viet era. Would explain that extra 8000 tons over the WW2 versions.

Not surprised the Navy is backing it, because whenever you see TV/movies focus on the Navy, it's either carrier/flight oriented/heavy or something like Navy Seals.

This show would be better if it was in space, and if instead of running from viruses it was evil robots.

Yup, and like Battleship this will be more focused on a everyday type of sailor. Good for morale and recruitment. Another interesting point in the article was almost all the extras were real crewmen on the DDG Halsey.
Apparently the Halsey eventually had to duty so the navy let them use 2 destroyers.

I'm still confused about the missile not damaging it however. The USS Cole was the same class/armor and some guys in Yemen managed to fuck it up pretty bad hull wise with a boat bomb.

Regardless it was a hit for TNT. 5.4 million viewers including 2.6 in the sweet ad range. 7.4 million for the night. Falling Skies by comparison did 3.7 million viewers and it showed same channel after it.

Once the hard part is done IE getting the explosives , a person could scavenge and monkey fuck up a pretty decent shaped charge device from any scrapyard . With some simple tools ,online field manuals and the requisite undisturbed construction location.
Would be even easier if it was a one way trip , fuck it use the whole roll of duct tape , we ain't coming back habib.

Im pretty sure the Yemen dingy guys had the boat filled with explosives, way more than a missile coming off that helicopter.

edit: Looked it up, the guess is the dingy had 400-700 lbs shaped charges, Im guessing that missle was about 10-20 lbs.

Ahh explains that then. I never looked up the dingy yield and that is a pretty damn strong blast.
Also those same missiles didn't even have enough concussion force to knock a guy off a snowmobile 10 feet away, come to think of it the missiles were a complete fuckup.

I thought Bay was the master of explosions.
