Lots of amiibo exclusive gear, which is kinda bullshit. Any way to spoof them?

you can "pirate" amiibos, basically clone data onto NTAG-215 cards. it'll cost a few bucks and need some software but the fake amiibos you make will work with anything - switch, 3ds, wii u
[Video Tutorial] How To Make Your Own Amiibo Cards

Instead of buying NTAG-215 cards you can also use apparently the Amiibo action replay Powersave, make sure it has the Powertag (the little black tire thing on the bottom left of the box)
Amiibo Action Replay PowerSaves

That lets you basically fake amiibos onto the powertag using a PC and that powersave tool, then read the powertag on your switch/wii u/3ds. I'm gonna buy one from gamestop this weekend and try it out.
(edit for myself: how to copy all the BOTW amiibo data to the powertag, just rename files to start with A_90b1b81c_2017-01-23_ and copy to "%userdata%\Powersaves for AMIIBO\" and they will show up in the powersave app)

There is also apparently a way to do it all with just a phone that has NFC (any new android/iphone) so that would be totally free, but you'd need an android app that can do JTAG-215 NFC comms, unfortunately my shitty android phone does not have NFC

From what I read Android phones use a different ISO standard for NFC that isn't compatible with amiibos. You can write to a NTAG and it will work, but you can't make a phone app which lets you select from a list of every amiibo ever made and have it communicate directly with a Wii U Gamepad, 3DS, or Switch.

My phone has NFC, but unfortunately it's in an Otterbox so I'm doubtful that I'll be able to get it to write to a tag. QI charging works through it though, so I could be wrong.

That Action Replay thing looks interesting. I thought the only way to do it with hardware was with a ~$80 Amiiqo. For $15 though, I might give it a shot. None at Gamestops less than an hour away from me though, so let me know how it goes if you buy one.

I have the Amiibo's (for BOTW only, i do not own any others), not tried them all yet, but you can drop gear and chest from the sky 1x per day. So technically i consider it a cheat at this point and i try not to use it. But i will try them all at least 1x

Anyone find a better way to make money than the bowling game? 500 a minute or so isn't bad but it's easy to mess up placement and get 9 pins instead of a strike.

So I bought the action replay thing today at my gamestop, its clearanced down to $15. make sure its the box that says it comes with a power tag since you need that to act as a "fake" amiibo for the wii u.

setup took less than a minute, I downloaded all the amiibo data files from 3dsiso dot com - have to register with the site first (use throwaway email), then in the amiibo bin file section I downloaded the mega pack which has every amiibo made to date. Renamed the files to be AMIIBO_something_date_name.bin and copied to c:\user\myname\Powersaves for AMIIBO after I ran the app and I can load a diff amiibo to the disc and then put it on my wii u gamepad to "read" it in BOTW.

the action replay is in stores at a lot of gamestops near me

This is a list of all the things you can load up with various amiibos, once per day
Zelda: Breath of the Wild guide – how to use amiibo

All seems to work great and its kind of cool having a single device that lets me spoof any amiibo I want in the future. Not gonna really play zelda much for now though, wanna finish Horizon Zero Dawn first. I frankly find zelda super boring still.

Guess I'll check my local Gamestop and see if they can get one in from another store or something. If not, it looks like I can order it online. Just concerned about the power tag thing, after checking Amazon and seeing that none of them sold there come with it.

So I ended up flying into volcano town ON FIRE using up about 30 hearts from the nearest mountain. Thankfully the armor shop there has air conditioning!

Anyone tried the heat resistant male gerudo armor for death mountain? I am about to do the third beast and goron town is gonna be my last major stop.

I do the paragliding from the tower. But not a 500/min thing. Hard to screw it up though.

Holy shit, this game!

Been playing the shit out of it the last few days (thank you, March break!), and I can't get enough. I can not stress enough how much the lack of hand-holding in this game adds to how satisfying it is to make progress.

Here's one of the many ways BOTW tickled me:

Found myself in Birdman town, was delighted to find a set of cold-resistant clothing, which I purchased after selling a few dishes I cooked up. I wanted to boost their defense so I visited the Great Fairy and saw that I needed Red Chu to do so. I remembered seeing Fire Chuchus on the volcano when I scaled the tower there, so I cooked up a heat-resistance elixir and went back to farm a few. I wanted to power the equipment up a second time but had no Warm Safflina (which I had never encountered up to that point). I hadn't really explored the Gerudo Desert yet but figured that would be a good place to look so I went back there and, sure enough, found a Warm Safflina plant. I took a picture and set my upgraded Sheikah Scanner to locate more and was able to find them reasonably quickly. For the first time since I've heard mention that you can get bonuses for wearing a complete set of twice-upgraded matching clothing, I found myself "freeze-proof". This was an entirely organic process that didn't involve the game spelling anything out or marking "Go here!" points on my map and it felt fantastic.

This is definitely going to get a few "Game of the Year" picks.

Also, I purchased The Witcher 3 well after its initial release because I had heard so much praise lavished upon it and figured I would love it. While there are certainly many things it does very right, it really, REALLY dropped the ball on combat, which is flat-out terrible. As much as I wanted to explore and see more of what TW3's world had to offer, I couldn't stand actually fighting enemies. Ironically, I'm far more accepting of BOTW's weapon degradation system than I am of TW3's, despite it being much stricter, because I was able to switch my mindset into seeing weapons as consumable items in a constant rotation. Also, I'm just going to come out and say it: I hate fucking Gwent. Final Fantasy 8 or 9 (I can't remember which) showed me that I don't like playing time-wasting boring card games in my epic RPGs. Keep that shit out of there.

The great fairies mention this like every other visit. "Oh by the way, do you know you can get special bonus for wearing a whole set of twice upgraded armor?" Wink wink nudge nudge.

For example, it's smart to buy and 2x upgrade the
male gerudo set for a lightning resistance bonus
before you fight the boss of the area. I am upgrading almost constantly but the fourth and final damn fairy wants 10k to open shop so I'm taking a break on that.

Also, you can just drop chu jelly on the ground and shoot it with an elemental arrow to change its type.

Yeah, that's what I meant. They mention it all the time, but it was the first time I've seen it in action!

Elemental arrows are still kind of rare to me (I'm not about to pay what shops are asking for), but I did also realize that you can kill regular Chuchus with an elemental weapon to get appropriately charged Chu. I just figured that instead of waiting for regular Chuchus to randomly spawn and damage my flame sword to get Red Chu, it would be more efficient to go to where I had already seen Fire Chuchus. I suppose I could have dropped regular Chu Jelly on the ground and swung at it with my flame sword, but I didn't think of it at the time. Heck, one of the great things about this game is that there are often multiple ways to arrive at a solution, right?

You can also make red chu by dropping regular ones on a fire, or white ones by freezing them in the snow or ice water.
