WHY? Why change something iconic so drastically instead of creating something new?
I have been reading about anti redhead prejudice throughout history. Interesting to note that in the middle ages Jews were often portrayed with red hair, as a common device for indicating "this is a jew". Not sure what this says about the "jews control hollywood" meme. Not sure if it has anything to do with the obvious ongoing campaign to replace all redheads with blacks in film. But a funny piece of trivia.
That's why I'm not watching these woke films, they don't represent me as a white man.Representation matters.
ITT: A bunch of dudes who got their first boner to a cartoon movie and have had a fucked up grip on reality ever since.
I note that several pages into the thread, you're still the only one whos said anything sexual about Ariel.ITT: A bunch of dudes who got their first boner to a cartoon movie and have had a fucked up grip on reality ever since.

On its own, you're right. It's not a big deal.Like who gives a fuck. It's based off a cartoon about fictional creature (a mermiad). Not like a black person is playing the role of Mulan or Pocahontas(who was an actual real person). People are so uptight these days.

It doesn't HAVE to be woke to ruin a comic book character you know.
This complaint, in and of itself, is a repeat and reboot of complaints from 50 years ago.
Oh, the irony.
On its own, you're right. It's not a big deal.
But it's part of a trend. Ghostbusters, the Oceans movie, BBC casting tons of blacks as nobles in period pieces, or making Greeks and Romans black.
I always point back to how blacks are 13% of the population but seem to have an outsized representation in media. The ironic part of that Oscars bullshit years ago was that blacks were already overrepresented, but they wanted more.
Same thing with having gay characters. 4% of the population, but name me a show without one token gay.
I'm not saying that any one instance is a travesty, but as a whole, casting Ariel with a black actress is a trend that appears to only be for virtue signal points.
Sounds like a brilliant marketing scheme if you ask me. All the white people will continue to buy white Ariel merchandise and some may support the new movie. While the blacks definetly and maybe other minorities will spend their money on a black Ariel and watch the movie. It's a win win situation for Disney.I'm saying the main character mermaid in the movie and assorted disney rides, lunchboxes, tshirts etc ia white with red hair.
they need an established classic IP to bolster their virtue signal. nobody wants to see princess kangzThey did, they made the princess and the frog...
It was the worst of any recent main Disney princess movie.
Still better than the recent real life adaptations.
Gay Elsa dudethey need an established classic IP to bolster their virtue signal. nobody wants to see princess kangz
