First shot thrown. "old" used derisively towards the project-- this is a comment made to a rag blog. You need to read into everything.

This is not Vanity Fair. You don't take interviews with rags unless something went on. Everything has to be in context.

Name one major accomplished actor in the vein of a Hugo Weaving who talked to a rag blog about a project he was cut from?

it's completely out of order.

Second shot "plug pulled" aka translation "I was cut from the project" Hugo Weaving was given no chance to respond to Lana.

READ: "Dates were agreed on, It was all fine" What the fuck is there to spell out? Getting the rug pulled on you in that manner is a firing where I'm from. She used the schedule excuse to cover her ass in the public eye. The reason it doesn't hold water is because dates were already agreed to by both sides. If she wasn't going to fire him, she would have allowed him to respond to her. He wasn't allowed to respond, that's cut and fired. Lana didn't say "Hey can we rework this?". He wasn't given any new dates to review, he wasn't spoken to as a friend by Lana about whether he could drop his commitment to the play he was in because she felt it was necessary. It was cold and hostile. She didn't even have the decency to give him an ultimatum.

Lana moved unilaterally against him. See "plug pulled".

The abruptness of it, and the manner in which he was dismissed from the project led him to give this interview to this industry rag. The circumstance of this "interview" taking place, and the comments from Hugo Weaving speak for themselves. Jilted, fired, dismissed, shit on.

I wouldn't read much into those interviews because "conflicting schedules" is so broad it could be anything from actors asking too much money, being too old or being difficult to work with, not being interested at returning and of course genuine schedule conflict. It could also be production choice, having 60 years old actors running around could conflict with their demographics and since Scorsese's The Irishman everyone knows it's a very bad idea deaging old actors into young characters.

Keep also in mind Matrix Resurrections is spearheaded by one Wachowski, the other one isn't actually involved in the production.

Besides the first Matrix and V for Vendetta, what are we basing our expectations on that this is going to be anything half decent?

It is going to be bad. They haven't had a good movie in 16 years. At this point, it isn't a losing streak, but rather highlights they've been far more lucky than actually good at what they do. Going crazy tranny and cutting out the main antagonist and replacing one of their main protagonsits with a dollar store knock off points to lack of clarity of thought.

It will bomb, but in usual liberal fashion, they will claim it was a complete success.

i'm sure the power of tranny will save this film from any harsh criticism. and it will do well its first weekend based on those glowing reviews. then it deteriorates quickly from there.

whatever reason he had for not being in this movie, its really sad they couldnt work it out. the dude was in TV/Movies for 20 years and nobody had ever heard of him until his role in the first Matrix, then boom he gets cast for Elrond in LOTR and becomes a big star. if it was money, then he should have taken the cut, if it was because he was filming something else, then he should have put some time aside to film some quick scenes. if it was because he doesnt like dickless men. then so be it. do the fucking movie and then you dont have to worry about dickless men anymore. he probably already knew that stuff, so its likely he was fired. in that case its much worse to shitcan your protege like that.

What fucking difference does it make which actor plays a character? The story is good, or it isn't.

I think Lana knew how he leans privately had something to do with it. I can't see any reason he would get the door slammed on his ass and "plug pulled" other than Lana being shaky about working with someone from the past who knew her as a man.

He didn't pass her litmus test by not bending over and kissing her feet, and as Gamma Rays mentioned before, since he had a sit down reading for Matrix 4 with all the cast members, he likely also was giving notes to Lana and her team on the story and his character. Because once you have the script and you are a major role, usually actors will give notes to the film's writers about little things they spot.

Lana read one or two notes he gave the writers, then slammed her desk with both hands furiously is how I picture it.

"Wow who does this fuckhead think he is? It's not gonna work" *phone slammed down*

i dunno about all that. all these people are dead inside. i think it could have been something as simple as,
Weaving: "hey I'm doing this other movie in 3 months. i have time to film my Agent Smith scenes, but i will be unavailable after x date."
wachowski: "that wont work for me i need you back here if we have to do scene reshoots and we always have to do some scene reshoots"
Weaving: "sorry, but i already am contracted for those dates, but i will be happy to come in for 3 months that i have open, i would love to play Agent Smith again"
Wachowski: "dont worry about it, we will go in another direction".
Weaving: "...................."
Wachowski: -hangs up phone

Missing the part where Hugo Weaving had already agreed to dates on Matrix 4 production with Lana.

The coast was calm and he was completely blindsided.

i was just making up numbers there to say it could have been over something very trivial as not being available for reshoots. either way, him not being in this film is fucked up. i feel the same way about Fishburne not being in it. both those guys had their careers jumpstarted after the Matrix.

A movie that didn't need to get made without the characters that made it a classic. The dick choppers are out to ruin the only thing of value they ever accomplished in life.
