Think of all the time you've wasted on shitty movies and you still haven't see Bladerunner.

The money behind both Sicario and Fury Road was American. And both are great movies, one made by the creator of Bladerunner 2049 which is amazing and I can't beleive you haven't seen yet. It's easy to say there's no good movies out if you aren't watching the best movies that come out.
Fury Road was made by the director of Happy Feet!

Incidentally, check out the top billing for Happy Feet's voice actors.

I don't think that race or gender swampping necessarily doom a production, especially in cases were it truly does not matter helmed by one of the greatest creators of our times. You're so busy being salty you can't even enjoy the amazing bounty we couldn't have even hoped for 20 years ago.

They chose to gender and race swap the character that the author explicitly said was supposed to represent Western man. They could have swapped anybody, even turned Paul into Paula, and it would be less ridiculous than turning Liet-Kynes into a black woman. Villenueve either profoundly misunderstands the source material or he is deliberately choosing to subvert it in the name of wokeness.

It's amazing how after all this fucking time you only ever moved one tiny step past 'Its only on the internet'. Truly amazing. You cannot even allow for the possibility of skepticism due to a casting decision that throws up a glaring red flag for anyone with at least two brain cells to rub together.

??!! Couldn't have hoped for? In the thread about one of the best movies ever made...that's over 20 years old now? Nothing they've made since comes close to it but what was that about bounty again? I hope you aren't using Sterling's list because some of those weren't amazing movies. Really good but if they are the pinnacle of the past 20 years...then I want another 20 years of not hoping for these kind of movies.

List you amazing bounty so we can make fun of it.

My list was post rotk, not post Matrix, i know it's just a few years difference but you'd be including a few more movies on the list at that point including those LotR movies. Again my list didn't include comedies or Comic movies which obviously have been a huge part of cinema in the last decade+. I also didn't claim that whole list is a bunch of Matrix level movies, that's absurd. The bar was set at Indi or Woke trash. Also, if you look at the 20 years prior to the Matrix, how many Matrix level movies are there going to be there too? It's not going to be all that big either.

Also, somehow forgot about The Martian.

there are some highly excellent films made in the last 20 years. in the last ten years? maybe the 4 i mentioned. Winter Soldier being the best of those. Fury Road is a visually amazing film, though i was disappointed with them splitting up Max with Furiosa who was just an ok character. i was also saddened by the recast of Mel Gibson. i dont care he hates jews, he should have been Max in Fury Road. the missed opportunity at Mel's Max finding out his old nemesis became Immortan Joe. sad panda

I mean I get that movies are a subjective thing, but this totally blows my mind.
it really shouldnt, HP 1 and 2 directed by Chris Columbus are simply amazing movies. HP3 directed by Alfonos Cuaron is also fantastic. the stories are much better. the visuals are great. the quality of actors is through the roof. i cant praise those 3 movies enough. Fury Road has badasssery to spare, but you need more than badass to make a film a classic. the first 3 HP movies make you feel like a kid again.

I like the early HP movies fine but I think Fury road is a classic. It's simple, but that isn't always bad. It just feels a lot like someone saying they'd rather have a five guys burger over a ribeye steak from a high end steak house.

thats fine, i dont knock people for their opinions on movies (unless i feel they are trolling). we have our own views and they dont always synch up. i saw Fury Road, thought it was cool as hell. now i only remember it from the memes. HP1-3 i still think about and have watched them dozens of times on cable.
this scene still gives me goosebumps

Harry thought his dad saved him, but his father is dead. nobody was gonna save him and Syrius. the only person who could save them was Harry. the underlying message is just genius.

I have difficulty getting Fury Road into the "film" category. It's just a movie to me.

I have Fury Road in a similar category as a portion of Marvel movies. Nothing wrong with that.

There are super gross stories about Thora Birch's dad being an on set dad during sex scenes trying to coach her on how to look hotter. Definitely father of the year material.
Well both her parents were porn stars...

Both her mother (Carol Connors) and father (Jack Birch) were in the classic porno movie Deep Throat.

I allow for skepticism, in all things. It's funny to me that you think that's an accurate description of what's going on here.

I think the situation is not that movies have changed for better or worse, but that the alternative forms of entertainment to them have improved considerably. Video games and TV shows have gotten waaaay better over the years, especially with newer tech and the streaming services. When you have to compare a story that's compacted into less than two hours to an alternative form that's detailed through episodes over the course of a mini-series, its a huge difference in quality.

I'm not saying they weren't all really good and some amazing. My problem was him saying movies we couldn't have hoped for 20 years ago and that's ludicrous. Only the first 5 would I put near either Matrix or LotR and I think every last one of them could have been made twenty years ago.

For me personally, I want my movies to try to emulate the book as much as possible. I want the best actor not the preferred skin color. I want to be transported into an alternate world during those 2ish hours not get woke trash slammed in my face at every point. That destroys the story. You can't focus on a story when the entire theme being pushed is woke with a dabbling into the main story.

It would be like a company advertising a new Sherlock Holmes film and they some great scenes in the preview. You get in the movie and 90% of the movie is gratuitous homosexual sex scenes and the rest is how he met his lover Watson. That's not what I came for. I didn't come to watch woke garbage, I came to watch a story, see some action, see horrible monsters, watch people get murdered, etc. That would be like a movie advertising how King Arthur and his 100% black Round Table tried to defend 'Camelot' from evil white hordes and their fall started the Dark Ages. Just give me a damn good King Arthur movie please? Just give a mystery for Holmes to solve, PLEASE? This is the type of shit they are selling today and personally, I want none of it. If Abu or Derjhonny is the best actor? Fine, then show me a good movie and quit with the extra narrative.
