New Writing
The salty breeze of the open sea tickled the noses of four fearless women aboard the notorious pirate ship, The Abacus. Meet Melilla, a cunning and quick-witted pirate deckhand who could outsmart anyone with her sleight of hands. Carmen, the fearless deckhand with eyes as sharp as the blade she wielded. Izzabella was the stealthy navigator who could anticipate the waves before they came crashing down. And Mackenzie, the master of disguise, who could charm even the deadliest of snakes.
As the sun set, casting a molten orange glow across the darkening sky, the four lady pirates gathered around a worn wooden table down below the deck. A flickering oil lamp illuminated the scene as a deck of cards was shuffled skillfully by Carmen. They had been battling storms and braving treacherous waters for weeks, and tonight, they sought solace and a taste of merriment in the form of a card game.
The rest of the crew members looked on anxiously, curious to see if these women could match their legendary pirate skills with their sharp wits. The air was thick with excitement as the first hand was dealt. Gold coins and trinkets glistened in the dim light, ready to be swooped up and claimed by the victor.
With every round, tension rose like the tide. The crew members' fortunes dwindled while the piles of treasures were amassed before the pirate ladies. Sweat dripped from furrowed brows, hearts raced, and pulses quickened. It was a duel of wits, strategy, and luck.
But unbeknownst to the crew, Melatilla, had a secret. Hidden beneath her flowing pirate blouse, she wore a locket that had been passed down through generations of skilled gamblers. It was said to bring both luck and misfortune, depending on the wielder's intent. Tonight, Melatilla intended to harness its powers and secure victory for her formidable crew.
As the final hand was dealt, Izzy subtly shifted her gaze towards the shimmering moon. In that split second, she noticed a massive storm cloud closing in, the captain poised for an attack. She knew their revelry was about to be shattered, but she had a plan.
Izzy slyly nudged Mackenzie, who gracefully slipped away from the table unnoticed. The crew members' focus remained fixed on their dwindling fortunes, oblivious to the impending danger. Mackenzie, now invisible, scurried above deck to warn the rest of the crew.
Back at the table, Carmen, sensing the rising panic, skillfully manipulated the players. She might have been a new crew member, but she was devoted to the safety of her comrades. With every sly grin and clever maneuver, she managed to calm the fear of losing inside their minds.
As the enemy storm closed in, the sounds of the lighting and rain grew louder and more violent. But the four pirate ladies were fueled by their unwavering bond and confidence in their poker skills. The game of cards had momentarily paused, replaced by the high-stakes game of survival.
First came the thunderous boom of a lightning strike, followed by the vicious splintering of wood and then multiples flashes of lights. The Abacus was under attack, its resilient crew members scrambling to fight off the merciless flames as they spread across the ship’s sails.
The scene below deck was a chaotic symphony of card dealing and high stakes poker. The remaining four pirate ladies played fearlessly, their pirate spirits aflame. The tables were turned, and the crew members who had once been hustled by these pirate ladies now found themselves indebted to their courage and resilience.
Through the thick haze of smoke, their eyes met. A silent understanding passed between the four pirate ladies and the remaining ship members. Their shared valor and determination would forge a shield strong enough to withstand any tempest thrown their way.
A few minutes later, as the ship’s captain yelled down below, battered and embarred crew of pirate rose quickly from their seats and followed the captains voice back out to the deck. The remaining crew members of men embarrassed by the pirate ladies in a battle of wits all reconvened back out on to the ship’s deck, where the captain debrief his men. And the remaining pirate ladies quietly remained down below unaware of the impending doom above them. Waiting for the remaining men to return down below like a fly caught in a web.
The locket around Melatilla's neck glimmered and sparkled, a testament to the victories and losses it had witnessed. But her friends knew that their true strength came from within, from the unwavering spirit that bound them together as they sailed the treacherous seas in this new adventure.
Mackenzie shouted down below the deck for her pirate lady friends to abandon ship because it was on fire and the male crew had already jumped overboard.
As the ocean floor opened up through the large, whirling swells of displaced water., illuminating their path, Melatilla, Carmen, Mackensie, and Izzy continued their journey in the water as the fiercest and most cunning pirates to have ever graced the seven seas. For the game of cards was just a glimpse into the thrilling lives they led, filled with adventure, bravery, and the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.
