I didn't give it much a chance, but it started old and stale and lacking promise.
Your review jogged more memory and I agree. In the short span that I saw, I figured it would be more of the same. I could see what he was saying, but it lacked luster and wasn't well executed. It was the same Colin Quin but aged and tired and unnuanced with content that had base-level yet also unbalanced observations. It was basically old uncle humor.I gave it more of a chance. I didn't finish it, but I didn't turn it off in disgust either.
It was just very odd. It's very ODD. In a way I respect that and it is 100% political commentary.
His main point seems to be "Hey, guys. Did you notice? EVERYONE IS FULL OF SHIT". It's not that I disagree...
I think, without having watched the back half, that I got exactly what he was going to be talking about in the first 10 minutes. He made his point in the first twenty. And there were a few witticisms in there... but, and I don't mean this in a bad way, it was kind of like watching a guy rant at a bar.
It felt more like attending the lecture of a visiting guest speaker than a show. Which again isn't an insult or intended to be.
Very odd.
If you consider his fanbase is aging new york blueish collar liberals (which is something that I just assume... fuck if I know, but it would make sense for a new york comic) then that hour is probably about as hard as he can possibly go without being MegaFamouse like Burr, Fansy, or Chapelle.
The Spy is really good so far. It's been awhile since the last Jew sympathy flick and this one tells more of the story than I've previously experienced. There's also some cringey tension in a good way.
Just finished it. There's some forced name dropping, like really out of place almost like they were directed to emphasize.I'm on episode 6 of this and it's pretty good. Cohen doesn't really do a lot of serious roles so this is different but he's very good in this. Also learned some stuff as I didn't know much of the politics of 1960's Syria and the rise of the Ba'ath.
yeah, I was probably overselling it, and was going to amend to be a bit more reasonable. But I went in blind with low expectations and was super impressed. 8/10 is probably more reasonable. Its like a SkyHigh, x10 better then it has any right to be.
If you need a palette cleanser after I-Land, Another life, etc... (i watched white chamber just before it. skip that one too.)
Sick and tired of poorly written pos, with horrible, and unlikable characters, plot contrivances, and constant nonsense? give this one a shot.
I think the ending works best as is. Any more, and would ruin it. Their budget couldn't afford it, and it would strip any mystery.
Cohen impressed me in this. I dont recall seeing him in anything serious and I had apprehensions. He wasnt Oscar material, but he did a decent job.The Spy is really good so far. First for me was Sweeney Todd. When he showed up in that i expected goof showCohen impressed me in this. I dont recall seeing him in anything serious and I had apprehensions. He wasnt Oscar material, but he did a decent job.
Intrinsic You should check out Mandy and Satans Slaves.
A few horror/thriller movies I caught on Netflix for spooktober.
Creeped out season 2. this is a fairly weak Canadian attempt to do an "are you afraid of the dark/goosebumps". for kids. mostly lame. S2 was much better then s1, though. 7/10.
In the Tall grass. The best of the bunch. Basically, someone remade The Reeds. 7/10
Terrifier. Terrible campy slasher. Just an excuse for some tits, and great makeup/gore effects. but, bad acting, retarded plot/storyline, just a goreporn snuff film in the end. 4/10
Welcome to Willits. campy, stupid slasher. coked out hick kills teens who he thinks are aliens. 3/10
A.M.I. a black mirror episode made into a movie. average at best. 5/10.
Lifechanger. ok I guess. Skinwalker is obsessed with a girl. 6/10.
Marianne:s1. pretty decent. unlikable lead. Some decent creeping dread/lore. CGI effects when shit finally hits the fan is a bit silly looking. 7/10.
Deathhouse. I guess this was supposed to be some horror movie actor great get together. Movie is a total trainwreck though. 4/10.
A haunting at silver falls:the return. a mess. 3/10
The Heretics. decent. 7/10.
Head count. decent. 7.5/10.
