I'm sure there are plenty of other drummers who can do this but visualization is nice to keep track of the time signature/rhythm/whatever.

Naw this dude is certifiably insane. Been following him for a while and some of the stuff he does seems impossible. Never seen anything like his one-handed work.

How the fuck can you live in this world and not know Mr Brightside? It's quite possibly the biggest rock hit in the past 20 years. It's especially embarrassing for a professional musician.
you pretend for the youtube video, thats how.

cmon man. lol

since this is not just the guitar thread,

got my pro 800 today after 3 months of waiting. Sounds insane, and has much more potential than the old pro 600, and easily replaces my little cheap 4 voice analog synth I was using before.

I know enough to know he's ridiculous, I guess it's more about comparing him to other top tier people like Danny Carey or Matt Garstka. Obviously, it wouldn't be a straight comparison so 🤷‍♂️

Speaking of people on another level, this is a pretty great chat session w/ Kiko Loureiro and Tosin Abasi

So my kid just got his first audio interface, what DAW do most of you use to record? Anyone use Reaper?

It came with Alberton Live LE but I guess its limited in some way?

I've used Cakewalk for many years. Since Bandlab bought it from Gibson it's been free (though that's changing soon), and has remained full-featured.

I use ableton for session view, as its a really nice songwriting tool. Plus its track warping funcionality is some of the best you will find.

Once I am done I usually will use Cubase to rewrite and finalize a track. you probably wouldnt have to do this, and could just use arrangement view in ableton instead.

honestly If its your kids first DAW, id stick with ableton, its the most user friendly, song writing friendly daw.

Know what the limitation is of the "LE" Alberton?

I don't know specifics for Ableton but usually it limits amount of tracks, plugins that can be used per project. Stuff like that.

Know what the limitation is of the "LE" Alberton?

here is a list of the features.
Live 11 Lite Features | Ableton

Honestly, in my personal opinion for starters, limitations can be a benefit.

and even then, the limitations arent that bad in ableton when it comes to making a song. 16 scenes full of clips is plenty for any average song.

Plus if you start making songs in ableton, and hit the limitations of it, you can updgrade.

The biggest limitation that I can see with this version, is the 8 mono in and out track limitation. But honestly you could get around that if you just bounce a track into a master track ( and optionally keep the stem of that track by exporting it or something if you wish to retain it)

Not sure where to ask this question, but this seems to be the best spot. I've been recording an album in the studio for the last year and I want to start recording my demos at home to save money.

For context, I typically just play acoustic guitar and sing to get a song demo'd. And for my own purposes I'm just using a room mic to pick up the vox and acoustic guitar.

I've got a Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen for my input and I'm using an Audio-Technica AT2020 as a room mic for guitar/vox. But, I'm getting some weird phasing when I record and I'm not sure where it's coming from. The vocals sound fine, but the guitar sounds weirdly electronic at moments and keeps phasing in and out.

I’m also looking for a pretty simple setup where I can record video and audio at the same time and do some mixing of the audio. Currently, I record it all at once and send it to a friend to eq the sound lawl.

I've got a Scarlett 2i2 running through Reaper and it works great. Can sound extremely professional.

is it all through one mic? if so, your vocals or guitar might be reflecting off of something causing the phasing.

If you are using more than one, it might be mic placement.

The original G3 tour is coming around again. Just picked up tickets. I listened to that album so much back in the day when I first really got into guitar playing.

I'm a big fan of AAL and continue my faux drum education via youtube

Moar ridiculousness from El Estepario Siberiano. I like the non-metal stuff the most, and especially the newer stuff he's doing is so fucking tasty

Any recommendations on a good starter guitar for adult? Maybe looking to spend 100-200 on a beginner acoustic.
