Sure, nothing wrong with keeping a couple bags of kibble on hand for a non-total disaster. If it's you or the dog though, sorry dog.

The cat on the other hand, I'll kill my cat just because I heard a gunshot on the off chance that it's the apocalypse and not just my neighbor sighting in his rifle for deer season.
As much as I love my cats, they wouldn't serve much use in any disaster situation. At best the one that is terrified of people not us might provide little benefit. A dog on the other hand could be quite useful as a deterrent, protection, early warning, 3 good meals and so forth.

I unironically like it more than the Will Smith one. It's not really even close.

The Smith one was pretty good until the dog dies and he tries to commit suicide by vampire. The second the woman and kid show up, the movie takes a giant dump.

Cat? A fucking CAT? No bro, drown that fucker on day zero.

Cats can catch you birds and mice to eat. Then you will die from bird flu and bubonic plague.

Don't think I'd want my dog developing a taste for humans, but thanks for the suggestion Ramsay.

Dogs will eat anything and are welcome to my corpse when I am gone. Hell my dog used to dig in the yard and I would get pissed but she was finding edible tubers and roots and chowed down on them, I couldnt scold her for being able to live off the land. Dingo blood is strong in the breed.

A guy I know who is a police officer got called in to a house where a woman had died and decomposed. When they broke the door in, the dog was carrying her head in his mouth. They put the dog out in the yard and then a few minutes later came out to see the next door neighbor petting the dog across the fence and the dog was licking their face.

NPR did an interview with a guy who ran cleaner company for corpse removal / crime scenes / etc. Pretty captivating because 99 % of people gloss over the idea of the reality that at the end of the day, we're just maggot food.

One job he did stuck with him because he entered this apartment and the sound of maggots crawling was loud enough he knew he was dealing with a full decomp. Old lady died alone, fused with the couch.

Bought enough beans and rice for a year, got the supplies to turn one of my closets into a water tank. Filters, rain catchers and bleach to keep it as sanitary as possible.

Restocked my ammo up to 1000 rounds and got a long rifle already, with a night vision scope on order, lots of 2 mill plastic and a good hair dryer. What else do I need for the corona apocalypse. I'm not expecting too much chaos, but I do want to prepared for services being inconsistant for 4-6 months.

it doesn’t take long, especially in certain climates. I remember one case I reviewed had massive liquification 10 days after suspected death. San Diego in the summer.

Ask your doc for some Cipro and buy a hazmat suit with a respirator. Stay away from people. Not sure what else to do if it spreads like the plague in the dark ages

Poor sanitation is a major concern in a disruption of any length. All the basic shit that you barely ever think about like toilet paper, soap, garbage bags and the like are really important. Bleach (lots of uses), hand sanitizer and even toothpaste are worth considering. Do you wear contacts? Get a pair of glasses. Even with surplus cleaning solution glasses can't be beat.

Water filtration can get tricky but LifeStraws are a great option.

This post reads as..."I am food...can someone eat me now or do I need to pre-heat the oven before I walk in"...BOOM that's like a triple-entandre jew slam! Gimmie some skin Tickles!

Honestly though, avoiding other humans is your best bet. Especially around coughers and sneezers. Wash your hands and do NOT touch your face unless you wash them under very hot water first. The face masks might help, might do nothing.

Bleach, alcohol, baking soda, vinegar, otc fever/pain relievers, allergy meds, vitamins, chamomile, elderberries, lots of instant coffee... Extra propane if you have a grill, fill some gas cans for your car... WaterBOB, 60 Day Lanterns, headlamps... Lots and lots of batteries.

Have you tried it lately? It's not serious gourmet shit or anything but it's gotten a lot better since the days of Tasters Choice vs. Folgers Crystals.

Could always watch the Emmymadeinjapan channel and her videos titled "hard times". She tries civil war/depression era recipes that use shit like dandelions or other dirt poor ingredients.

I dunno, I've had some of the Starbucks instant and a bunch of different kinds in Australia (Australians often tried to convince me it was an acceptable choice). I can't put my finger on why, but they all just taste fake. Better than nothing, and I'd drink it if there is no real coffee available within a few miles.

I'm just thinking, if we're going to all the trouble of stockpiling shit, why not stockpile actual coffee? Surely we're planning on still being able to boil water post-apocalypse.

So buy a hand crank burr grinder and chemex, but this isn’t the coffee thread. Instant’s just easy if the power goes out, and it doesn’t degrade like whole beans.
