I was at like 110-120 hours when I beat DA:I. Granted I did some grinding for absurdly rare crafting recipes, my playthrough was definitely what you'd call 100% completionist, and I have a bad habit of leaving games paused for hours while I do something else, but still...

That was long before any of the DLC was released on PS4 too.

DA:O with all DLCs is like 50-60 hours.

Got Metallia and Etna to 2500 and progressed as far into the postgame as I could, which didn't turn out to be very far. Getting wrecked by the third map of the Carnage dimension. Goldion's a real dick, hitting my poor little level 300 Professor for 1.9 million

Zestria's reviews are less than inspiring. However Tales games rarely get great reviews, i dont think any have been very good since Vesperia.

81 metacritic seems really solid to me in a world where critics are overwhelmingly hostile to jrpg's. We'll see what happens when there are more than like 5 reviews, though.

I only bought it for free Symphonia anyway. Yes its dumb to pay 60 bucks to get a free 20 dollar game, but whatever. Don't judge me.

Canceled my steam pre order for Zestiria, got it for the PS4 instead (didn't want to wait 4 days)

Runs well, looks decent. Not more than an hour ish into it, so can't judge it more than it is a tales game. From the little I have read of the reviews, it doesn't appear you will be disappointed with it if you enjoy the series.

Also bought Dragon Quest Heroes and Disgaea 5, so should be set with rpgs now until Fallout. Dragon Quest appears to be a little too whimsical though. Do not like the way they have done voices/dialog there.

Though it looks like the Steam release got pushed up a day? Now available Monday afternoon from what I'm reading, not sure if it's just a display bug though.

Edit: yeah steam page is showing the 19th.

You know what I don't like, all the DLC tied directly to power for Zestiria.

I do not mind cosmetic dlc at all. Only game I've ever bought that for is Guild Wars 2, however this game has 27 packs of DLC. Skit pack, which is free (great), some beginner items which is free (potions and such).

You can also buy food (crafting?) items and two packs of monsters (which I bought since it is content of sorts).

However, the DLCs I am skeptical about are the ones that double speed exp, double gold, double rate of art skill up and directly + level purchases.

What that makes me afraid of is that they artificially increase the time it takes to get them normally, making it a much more grindy experience than what it would be without the DLCs. Not adding anything to the game at all other than it takes 2000 uses of an arte to skill it up, but with the $2 DLC, it takes 1000. Same with gold. Prices can then be inflated to the point where normally you would have to grind 30 extra encounters to afford that special item, but now they can inflate that number to 60, but with the DLC, it is back down to 30. That high level enemy blocking progress to a side quest requires normally 2 hours of grinding, that is now 4, but with DLC, back down to 2 (or just buy levels).

Not that you "need" these DLCs, and certainly not as early I am in the game, but with them added, I find it hard to believe they haven't also artificially inflated the various parts of the game those DLCs affect, to make people consider buying them.

A Tales game with enough DLC to triple the base price is nothing new, it's just business as usual at Namco. I don't remember feeling like any of that cheater shit was actually needed in Xillia though.

I just found this thread and was reading through it. Never played any JRPG - they look ridiculous to me when I click on the screenshots and stuff. Before you guys go nuts, yes, I realize I'm being very biased. My fondest RPG memories come from very old games like Wizardry, Bard's Tale, Ultima, etc. I love turn based and strategic type battles like found in Baldur's Gate, NWN, etc. I'm pretty weird when it comes to RPG - I haven't played The Witcher games because I don't like that I can't make my character and name him what I want. I thought Skyrim was OK, but I didn't like how console-oriented the UI was and I don't like the trend of dumbing down stats that Bethesda is doing. My favorite ES games are Arena (for nostalgia) and Morrowind (for playability.)

In recent history, I've liked the XCOM games, and I played a kickstarter game called Pillars of Eternity that was pretty satisfying for a fan of NWN type games.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the direction that popular RPG games have taken, but maybe I just don't know where to look for a good old school RPG where you have lots of stats and skills and the world is big and sandboxy (remember Ultima 3 and 4??). I think a big problem is that there just aren't lot of people around with tastes like mine anymore, and the only games that get made to fit that playstyle are more like indie games, and I click past them on steam cause the graphics are just so bad.

That being said, any suggestions?
