OVER US. They have no power OVER US. We have our rights and freedoms and they can't take that away from us, no matter how much they'd like to.

Seems to me like the problem as you're describing it is: "Muslims exist". While I'm sure you have your reasons, that isn't at all what I've been talking about. I've been talking about the foolhardiness of attempting to justify destructive, antagonistic behavior as "productive". I don't mind you going off on tangents, but I hope you understand that nothing you've said has anything to do with anything I've said.

You're not that far off. You make it sound like I'll just take the opposite of whatever the consensus happens to be, but that is not the case. When I see that the consensus is not only asinine but literally advocating behavior that accomplishes the opposite of stated intentions, that's my in. The hypocrisy and idiocy on display whenever Sarkeesian came up was like Christmas for me. A woman makes flawed but interesting videos about the portrayal of women in video games and "the consensus" was that she was a liar, a fraud and a con artist and everybody NEEDS to know this even if the act of telling them convinces them otherwise and leads to more power and influence for her. At the same time, someone who was lying through his teeth for attention and profit but happened to be on the same side as "the consensus" got a free pass. It was fucking gold.

This is similar. I know Muslim extremists are a cancer on the Earth. But I also know that going out of your way to piss people off does not help "fix" anything and always makes things worse. In any other circumstances I can't imagine it would be so hard for people to accept this, but because it's about the "villain of the day" logic and reason go out the window (just like it did for Sarkeesian). I mean, I can kind of understand the innate need to have a "bad guy" to rally against, but when you let your emotions cloud your ability to see the situation clearly, I'll be here to set you straight. I tend to be able to keep a level head when "the consensus" goes into full "witch hunt" mode.

OK then, so your solution is to wear shorts with knee-high blue socks, blue socks on your hands and a t-shirt with a picture of a blue sock on it. How does that get the gangster off your back?

I don't even own blue socks. You're saying that unless I go out and buy blue socks for the sole purpose of pissing off the gangster who hates that shit, I'm a pussy.

I never "condemned" anyone, I pointed out stupid and counterproductive actions as stupid and counterproductive. And that wasn't even about people wearing blue socks, it was about the schmuck who went out of his way to buy some blue socks just to taunt the gangster who hates them.

But yeah, obviously people find that offensive. If there's anything that offends "the consensus", it's criticizing how you handle your bad guys. I might be more offended that this somehow makes me a "dick" if being a dick wasn't exactly what I'm criticizing here.
