That's one of the best quotes from the entire show.

Well, that and "I'm just a humble motherfucker with a big-ass dick."

Wonder if the show shot on film through all seasons... if so we could reasonably expect a remastered bluray at some point if we take enough HBO execs hostage.

I think it was said before that it was shot the way it is. There will never be bluray because the creator wanted it to be "gritty and real" or something to that effect.

Yeah, I don't think a remaster is possible. One of the lasting complaints, but it was a choice not an oversight.

Fun fact : while The Wire never got lawsuit threats from Baltimore PD, The Shield got threats since s1 and that's why they changed badges (LAPD modified) and names (Farmington Police).
On what grounds? Shouldn't all these badges and emblems be public domain?

Probably some shit like impersonating a police officer.

Obviously, that's the entire point, that's ACTING. But they're impersonating a very specific police officer. So if you wanted to be a really pedantic dick about it I bet you could argue that what they're doing is illegal unless they use fictional badges.

I just love how The Wire didn't treat you like the average mouth breathing television audience. So many pilot episodes are terrible for cramming as much background expository into the show while trying not to make the entire episode seem like an endless round of introductions.

This one rustled me hard on The Strain:
"Dr Goodweather this is the last of six court appointed custody counselling sessions; you've been late for four of them"

It feels so fucking lazy.

I remember reading a newspaper article when that happened, the LAPD was being pretty defensive because they were reaping the rewards of their historically bad reputation. I haven't watched The Shield since it went off the air but it was pretty popular and lacked any sort of subtlety from what I remember. I doubt any PD would want to be associated with the Vic Mackey style ham-fisted over, the top crooked cop, and "I am ze law" type police officer.

The Shield is basically S5 McNulty for seven seasons. Being corrupt starts of so easy, and then gets absurdly complex. I guess the police were pissed because the first few seasons it seemed like they could get away with fucking anything without even stressing over it. But of course the show doesn't work if they get thrown in prison in the third episode.

Speaking of S5 McNulty, my favorite part of that bit was when he brings up the idea to Lester, and when Lester goes along with it Bunk has his "you've got to be fucking kidding me, are you all insane?" reaction.

It's Marlo saying saying to the working black store cop trying to not be another dead weight on society "You want it to be one way, but it's the other."
Let's have this quote right: "You want it to be one way, but it's the other way."

I too often think about it and even use it. It's a multi-purpose quote: it's philosophically powerful, about accepting the reality of things, but it's also a good smack down!

Yea, the first time I watched the show I was sure Lester would flip out on McNulty when he found out. Instead he starts carving fake teeth to make the crime scene look better. Still makes me laugh.
