That article is stupid bullshit. For #1, the 2003 series was better than the original cartoon, so there is no ruination there. And the obvious #2 the first cartoon series made the ninja turtles, how fucking stupid do you have to be to claim it ruined them?

No, I know what they mean. It doesn't make any sense. The comic was a low print-run indie comic. The cartoon made it a national phenomenon, there was nothing to ruin. TMNT didn't exist in the public consciousness until the cartoon.
That is not actually true, although for different reasons.
The nation knew about the TMNT comic because it was profiled on a lot of news shows as an example of why comics were becoming to violent.
It even appeared in Playboy.
Much like DND gained allot of traction from it's bad press.
Was it as big as the movies, and TV series? not even close, but people did know about them before that.
I hate that I'm defending something associated with Michael Bay, but some of the criticisms are silly. The issue has less to do with lips and more to do with expressions and motion capture in general. The turtles look pretty cool based on that poster, so I'm going to reserve judgment until I actually see the movie.
