Nope. I'd guess I've heard close to 60 new albums. That stoner rock metal scene seems to produce a few bands every few days. Very exciting time for the genre.
i figured you had, homeslice

question -- for how many of you is this the first new album you listened to this year?
Fripp was so boss.
Not even close. Black Keys, Whitney, Big Wreck, Junius Meyvant, Raconteurs, Aristocrats, The Heavy, Ghosts of the Forest, White Denim, Snarky Puppy, Dream Theater. Probably missing some. Some really good new stuff this year.
you guys that actually have listened to a bunch need to stop showing off, or the ones that haven't listened to a new album since 2013 are going to be too embarrassed to out themselves. i knew you'd be good Alex haha
Sat down on my balcony last night with a cup of coffee and a joint. Put on my good headphones on and gave the album a listen for the fourth or fifth time. Just closed my eyes and really listened and spent a lot of time trying to count out drum rhythms and stuff. Man the album rocked me the way tool used to when I was in high school. It bums me out to read all you guys not enjoying the album so much. But the more I listen the more I’m digging it. If I listen to it casually it doesn’t grab me. But when I give myself the time to really dive into it...totally different experience.
Admittedly played it through in the background, I'm sure other people here did the same thing.
Everyone should probably give it a fair spin.
Not going to give it full play-through again. Targeting specific tracks people mentioned here is a better approach for me I decided

Yeah I'm sure there's a bunch of us that haven't listened to anything else new this year, but all you guys showing off have now scared them away from admitting it
That’s crazy to me. I constantly need new stuff, although I can listen to old stuff, and listen to some albums over and over but I always need more new. I am the same way with some hobby stuff I do, video games, board games. I’m guessing it’s some kind of mental issue but I’ve never tried to look into it. I don’t want to self diagnose as autistic or something. I don’t have any social issues, so maybe it’s just I get bored easy, idk.

Dude.
This carries over into some every day shit too, like, new flavor of M&M's that doesn't even sound good? Must buy.
I remember hearing somewhere about the big three words that drive marketing: new, free, sex. Apparently most people are keyed into one of the three and mine would definitely be 'new'.
Back when I was first getting into warez, I would download anything and everything just to try it, even if it was just for a few minutes to figure out it was garbage. I think I was always looking for that holy grail/hidden gem. I feel like I've toned it down quite a bit but I also think that's because I've discovered that most 'new' things now are just a rehash of the old things I've already tried.
Sorry for the derail but it really hit close to home for me. I hope Maynard writes a song about it.
Haha, exactly me. I bought those horrible sounding jalapeño M&Ms over the summer. I even said “wow these sound bad” as I grabbed them.
Turns out they were not bad.
