Yeah, holy shit, 30-50 up is far and away more than enough for just about any quality you want to send. And that processor is plenty as well. It is entirely on her end, unless you're leaving something out, which I doubt you are. 320p should run flawlessly even over a fucking 3G phone I'd think, let alone 240p. Is there any chance she has roommates that were doing other shit on the internet? Or is using wireless that is set up terribly, or gets interference from the microwave, or some crazy shit like that?

Seriously, 320p might even work over DSL. How does anyone even watch stuff at that resolution anymore?!

The best way to test it is to get someone else to try it on their setup and see what happens. If you don't have anyone, I'll PM you my email address and you can temporarily add me to your Plex and I'll give it a try. Or you can add mine to hers and she can try streaming from mine as well, whatever, but I'm going to bet it won't work from mine either. It HAS to be on her end, I can't even imagine anything that drastically wrong with yours at that resolution.

I watch them through a wired connection, and they do just fine. But Plex should transcode them down in quality, before sending them remotely, right? That's the point of setting the remote quality?

I have a DIR-655 Dlink router. Will check into the QoS settings.

Yeah, that's exactly right, Plex is downgrading them before even sending, so it doesn't matter what you have downloaded, you should be more than fine. That's also the same router I have, and unless you changed something (I didn't), it should be just fine. Your speed is fine, your processor is fine, your settings are WAY low...it is something on her end. First thought is, she's a chick. Can't fix that though (well, without major surgery), so next thing is speedtest her internet.

I mean at that speed, she could load up some pictures on facebook and streaming movie would buffer, no?

And her defense to it all, is well Netflix never buffers and does just fine.

heh, I have a 3 Mbit up connection, and I can watch 720p content on my 3G Nexus 4 with Plex just fine.

Nah, but the main reasons someone goes through this much effort for a chick is if you want to bang her, she's a relative, or a friend of your significant other that she "suggested" you help. I'm sure there are others, but those are the main ones I can think of.

I'm all for VPNs, but that has been going on for years. Amateur Allure was big into it several years ago, and pretty much it boiled down to a bullying scheme. Send someone a letter saying you are going to sue them, and offer them a settlement for a few thousand dollars. Every one that pays is money in your pocket. And many did.

Eventually a few people fought back and the lawyer involved got reamed pretty good (not financially though I believe) by the judge and called out for their scare tactics. I'm not saying that you can't get sued for this sort of thing, because you definitely can, but in particular ones where they list "thousands of claimants" they are just looking to pressure ISPs like Comcast into giving up their subscriber info based on IP addresses so they can send out those letters. There are a ton of examples and articles of it all over the internet.

That lawyer, John Steele, was disbarred (or is in the process of being disbarred) in both states he held licenses specifically for the tactics he was using.

Anyone know where the best place to find audiobooks is? My dad does a ton of driving so he's always asking me to find him some, but IPT doesn't have most of what he's looking for.

Can't really offer anything for an invite somewhere besides an IPT invite, which I'm sure 99(100?)% of you already have.

I know we're talking Torrents here, but have tried the public library? Lots of books on CD. Also, some Kindles will read to you and you can borrow books for them, also.

He's often gone for months on end in the oil fields in northern Alberta or Manitoba, so a simple trip to the library is out of the question. And I don't know about you, but listening to a book via text to speech would be worse than silence.

Anyway, audiobooks are one of those tricky inbetweens. Not many avenues to get them. The larger main sites are probably your best bet. Perhaps there's an IRC channel dedicated to them like eBooks...

demonoid used to be a great resource for ebooks, and audiobooks, but they are gone.

I feel lately, on usenets, and torrents, it's easy to find the packs of the best scifi books, or other big packs of hundreds of books, but it's been really difficult to find individual books that are not Twilight, or Hunger Games or of that same popularity.
