They are gonna MTV the fuck out of Twitch. Pretty soon it'll all be reality TV with no streamers left.

That won't happen. Shows, even cheap reality TV shows, have a higher overhead than someone just sitting in front of a camera and shooting the shit or playing games or going full THOT. And all those people bring in $$$$. Shows can be a good way to get sponsors, get some cross promotion going, get more direct advertising dollars...but they won't have enough content to make up for the primary revenue generator (regular ole streamers).

Those MTV shockjocks will tell you, they had nothing when they first started out. Even some of those early early shows had nothing. I can remember one starring Colin Quinn and Kari Wuhrer? I think? Can't recall the name of it, but that show was put on for basically nothing.

By the way, this will be my annual(-ish?) post about how Twitch and Amazon are a bunch of cunts for dropping their Roku app and continually DMCAing anyone who uses their public API to create a 3rd party one.

Literally the second that their is a good alternative to Twitch I will be dropping it like it has super-corona-aids because of their cuntiness.

Won't happen unless Mixer buys out a few thousand content creators, Mixer is a better platform but lacks the content.

What's funny is TV shows look like Twitch streams these days, content may be changing for good after this pandemic.

I'm not saying that it won't happen, I'm just stating that it's not likely to happen. Twitch is already in a niche of video games and simps. Mixer even moreso, and facebook gaming is way the fuck down there. So, not only would you be creating a niche out of a niche, but already in a niche product.

That's not easy, and it requires a laser focus.

TV might as well go away at this point. I have youtube tv, and I feel like when I turn it on it defaults to random channels. Last night it was ESPN 2 and what was on? Cornhole championship. That's definitely the quality of garbage that should just be online. Time for the TV industry to go bankrupt.

It will happen one day, and even if I'm 80 years old when it happens I will cackle like a bitch while watching them die.

It would, if not for the copyright laws that are keeping it afloat right now. NBC is spending their 100 million from Friends (from one network, Netflix, BTW) which ended, what? 20 years ago, now? No telling how much they're making off of the syndication of that show. And I'm telling you that these copyright laws won't die. These mega-corps (like NBC) have twisted our national government into their playthings and extended copyright laws so far beyond what is reasonable, that even if you lived to 160 you still probably wouldn't see them die.

The only thing that can kill twitch at this point is twitch itself. And it will happen, just like blizzard did to itself.

Will be interesting to see if amazon goes for the NFL next year when the TV contracts are up... sports is the only reason to watch TV.

Yah, that'll be fun. Watching millennial esports broadcasters trying, and failing, to actually announce a game. "Wow, Bob, the Packers came into the half with a 48-17 lead, and we sure fucked that one. Guess we shouldn't count our chickens or something, right?" "Nahhh, fuck that. The Jets just got lucky."

Great.

Of course, I'm not even sure if the Packers and Jets are in the same league. Guess that shows what I know about football. Heh.

NBC sports still only streams using Flash. Amazon could just contract out for a better streaming platform and not have to restaff anyone. As the viewer base shifts more to stream watchers rather than TV then they'll buy out the sports broadcasts entirely as media companies either shift or downsize like newspapers.

They could, and probably would, switch it over to Twitch. Make it $5 / hour / game to watch ad free. Heh, guess I just figured out why they bought Twitch. And have it on a sliding scale depending upon the difficulty of the game. $50 / per hour / game for the championships, $100 for the SuperBowl.
