Yah, that'll be fun. Watching millennial esports broadcasters trying, and failing, to actually announce a game. "Wow, Bob, the Packers came into the half with a 48-17 lead, and we sure fucked that one. Guess we shouldn't count our chickens or something, right?" "Nahhh, fuck that. The Jets just got lucky."

Great.

Of course, I'm not even sure if the Packers and Jets are in the same league. Guess that shows what I know about football. Heh.

Announcers and color commentators are the worst part of watching sports. I would love to see them replaced with a single toggle to turn on/off a single announcer like live sports in arenas have now. Simply tell me who did what for how many points and keep your opinions to yourself.

When you guys say TV is dying, do you mean broadcast TV (yes it'll die - mostly), or the Networks (they won't die.. probably will see some more mergers/buyouts though).

Networks like ABC, CBS, NBC aren't going anywhere, they will just migrate to streaming platforms. TV programs like The View will still exist.
Streaming is the future and it's here now, but the Networks are hopping on board as well and will make damn sure they get eyes on their content.

Broadcast TV will probably be mandated to exist for a very long time to ensure a signal is still transmitted just in case the world somehow enters an Apocalyptic scenario and the internet no longer functions anymore.

Networks and TV stations don't need to migrate anywhere. All their content is already available to stream on their own websites. What is going to change is the cable companies themselves offering streaming services. This is already what I have for XFinity. I do not have a cable box, anything I want to watch via cable is done so through the XFinity app.

It works fine from the XFinity site itself but has almost no support on the major stick devices (I think Roku is the only platform that has the XFinity app) and the app itself is a hot piece of garbage. But that will eventually change.

You're still getting the content the same way... coming in via coax. These cable companies are foolish to keep dragging their feet on making it seemless and easy to transition to tech that already exists in the majority of households (streaming devices).

I really don't think so. With broadband internet coming in the form of Coax, sure, it bought them some time. All of the cable companies and all of the networks are in this together. That's why one piece of hot garbage is just like another piece of hot garbage. And you've got laws there that limit the amount of ISP's you can have in your area, as well.

Personally, I can only think of two companies that provide broadband internet. AT&T (lol) and Comcast. And AT&T is still a DSL fucking nightmare. Just to have about the seventeenth repairman come out and tell me that I have gigabit on my pole. Only to then be told, by the lady on phone with AT&T that 50MB / sec was gigabit speed. wat? It was a fucking joke.

As long as they have coax coming into your house, you'll never be free of TV/Networks/Cable companies. That's one reason I wish that google would be out here already. I'm so ready for all of these things to just go ahead and die (Comcast, all of the TV networks, TV in general). I know it's a technological problem, but it's also a legal problem, as well. And yeh, there's something that really works well together, lawyers + anything.

What needs to happen is another "internet" like idea. I don't mean another internet. But another culturally significant moving event like the internet, especially situated on the tech. And right now, I just don't see that happening.

But people still want content. Still want News, Sports and Shows.
You will just replace networks with Netflix and other stuff instead.
I don't know what problem you think you're going to solve. There's going to be a demand for content, people aren't going to watch Twitch for everything. It'll all be streamed but you'll still have "produced" tv shows, news, sports, weather, no matter what platform.

Also, if you really wanted, you can be "free" of the TV networks right now.
Just like Khane said, I am 100% streaming my content, I only have basic TV because I signed up for it. If I cancel, then all I have is Netflix, Amazon, DIsney+.
It's already a choice to be free.
Comcase runs a cable to my house but all I pay for is the internet.

I have a love/hate, sometimes it drives the hype tbh.. But I'm only speaking from an esport standpoint. I enjoyed the deadpan I heard in sports growing up, but at the point I was actually understanding was wwf into boxing/mma.

The thing I like about esports atleast, is some games offer a spectate view in-game with no commentary and user camera movement; which I hope becomes more regular. I think Overwatch and CSGO particularly.. And just hearing specific teams ingame coms is really satisfying; hearing the players frustration or excitement. At the same time, it's been awhile since I watched anything FGC. I did enjoy when it was more wwf antics and not worried about its image. It's probably better now, but sometime in the early 20teens they did this whole clean up our image thing for professionalism, which was particularly the shit talking commentary.

it was an era that is on the same level of the juggernaut dub, but even when cs was at lans on crt; teams yelling shit talk across the room at each other was within that sametime.

I found CSGO casters to be the most bearable and consistent. I couldn't watch overwatch, idk about now, but in the beginning constant rag to riches and Cinderella story analogies. CSGO, I think other than wow what omg, was "inhuman reaction" but it was always cut straight rather than filling dead air with analogies.

But yeah, I see where it's annoying too.

Twitch's new reality show, "Screen ripped". Where streamers rip all over each other for fun and profit.

Ugh.

You can tell TV is dying when I got a offer for a free month of CBS all access 4 months ago. Every month about 3 weeks in and just after I canceled it they sent me a code for an additional free month. I currently have it till June 17th starting in Feb and haven't paid a dime for the ad free streaming service.
Add in stuff like Epix atm is .99 a month on Amazon for a few months just after Starz was $1 a month for 3 months and Sling has sent me 3 free months and several free 7 days are sitting in the email box atm. Not new signup free trials either, just please watch everything we have for free, and if you actually remember to cancel, we'll send you more weeks free.

We cut cable out a couple years ago and will never look back. My two kids make me laugh when we go to their grandparents and they have regular cable. When a commercial block comes on they always ask why they can't skip them

In the same boat, we don't have cable and I constantly have grandparents asking me "Well what do they watch? Do they watch Paw Patrol?" No, they watch something "Content related" or they go outside.

My 5 year old has been getting "into" minecraft in that he watches other people play and then demands for 5 hours to play on my computer.

Finding "Kid Friendly" Minecraft streams is somewhat hard since either they are a person with an annoying as fuck voice that spams greetings and bangs gongs for every follower / donation / sub OR they are a 30+ year old person swearing a ton as their autism causes them to search for the BEST SEED EVER!

Either way, the sheer volume of streamers means that at least ONE person will fit my criteria.

"Steph has been a full time streamer since her debut playing competitive collegiate Heroes of the Storm in 2016. She was one of the first transgender streamers to ever be partnered on Twitch, and the first to bring a transgender pride flag emote to the platform. Her fight for inclusivity includes creating a competitive team composed entirely of marginalized gamers, and vehemently opposing non inclusive mechanics such as voice chat."
