What people don't realize is these us cities have ghetto shitholes and MOST of them, if you stick to the right areas, are generally safe. It's why shit like portland and sanfran stand out so much, they have nutters everywhere, while chicago is mostly south side or whatever and you probably could have a twitch con there without incidents unless people took a really stupid trip. Some are just ugly women, some are actually somewhat attractive women that stand to gain more from starting out as anime streamers if their voices are interesting and they get inticing avatars.
Edit: To clarify, if they started out as themselves, they would just be another somewhat attractive girl on whatever stream platform.

My understanding is that a lot of vtubers are actually good looking women, which is where they get the confidence to act cute. They get more viewers with the anime avatar and don't have to bother with makeup and clothes (or showers in some cases lol).
