Can they even be sued in this kind of situation? He was a adult and living away from the parents. I dunno maybe if he was under 18 and/or still living at home. Especially since he was getting therapy at the time(which I assume was paid for by the parents) so it's not like it was just ignored.

I know the Columbine parents got sued, but they were under 18 I think(nvm the one turned 18 literally 11 days before the shooting)? and still living at home, since they still went to highschool and they kept all their guns, explosives, plans etc at the homes.

My feeling is no one could prove gross negligence anyway, they did appear to alert the police when they found evidence, attempted to get therapy as you said, etc... so meh.

Yeah I don't know if I'd go dogpiling on the parents yet. I'm sure they fucked up a bit during his upbringing, but every parent fucks during a kid's upbringing. At a certain point, kids decide for themselves whether or not they want to be pathetic antisocial dipshits. I have a pretty big immediate family, and half of it consists of normal, functioning adults, and the other half consists of lifelong losers. Parenting can only do so much. People make their own choices, even before they're adults.
