As an American I'm prone to the same mistake. You assumed imperial units. Keep in mind the devs are Russian. The indicated airspeed is actually 700 KPH... as are the ingame stats. So no, he wasn't diving at 700 mph. A near mach 1 p-40 would be a feat indeed. Never the less the plane is at about 430mph in the game (real life max speed of 360mph). Again this is arcade mode and is made to be fun for the player. If this were Historal Battle (which utilizes the more realistic flight models) he would have oversped the aircraft and lost the wings.

I do agree that some of the flight models are aweful, particularly with joystick support (p-39 with joystick is a nightmare), but each patch brings improvements. It is a BETA afterall.

So maybe try the game out a bit and cut the devs some slack.

It has been a great deal of fun for the time I've played it and I'm sure you'd enjoy it too.

As an arcade-style flight sim, I found War Thunder to be a lot more fun than World of War Planes which seemed clunky and hard to control with mouse+KB the last time I played it (2012). We'll have to wait and see if Gaijin can create tank combat that is polished enough to compete with World of Tanks.

I'm pissed that both companies decided to put off naval combat until last since I've been looking for an MMO WW2 Navy game since playing Navy Field years ago.

1.41 is out and with Tanks. Tank portion is more like a simulator than arcade via WoT style.
It is the open beta release so it has some issues but very playable.

Just a heads up if anyone else enjoys such a thing.

I picked it up recently just for something to do.

Free to play was struggling to earn in game currency so I started looking at premium tanks.

For like $8 you can buy a German captured KV-2 which at tier 3 prints +320% extra credits, which normal tanks at that tier print like %30.

It's ridiculously overpowered armor and gun wise at that tier also.

I went from about to quit after a day or 2 to unlocking half the German tech tree in a week just playing that tank and a couple tier 3 panzers.

Thing is I went through all the other tech trees and there doesn't seem to be anything else that overpowered for that little bit of money.

Didn't realize it was so popular. I played world of tanks for a long time but that game was frustratingly pay to win where you had to pay real money for premium ammunition and tank modules.

This game is much less so. The premium tanks you buy perform no better than the regular tanks. You just pay not to grind endlessly. And $8 to print all the silver credits you will ever need is a minor investment.

Though I stopped played WoT for now and only play Warships from time to time because it's relaxing.

Much different model that WoT. They are both pay to play high tier tanks, or farm silver with lower tier premium tanks, but war thunder doesn't actually give you any in game advantages for real money. Just speeds up grinding considerably. Plus it's kind of neat with helicopters and airplanes in the tank battles.

By that metric neither does WoT? They both offer broken premiums for sale which is the significant problem. WoT hasn't had gold only ammo for many, many years.]

I don't think war thunder has any premium tanks you can't get in the tech tree. The only difference is the premium versions have better credit multipliers. Tank module upgrades are all standard and the premium tanks don't get upgrades like call for artillery or air strikes. It's not like world of tanks where you just buy better ammo or better modules with real money.

Sure, you can farm for gold rounds with lower tier tanks, but most people don't, they just bust out the credit card. There is none of that in War Thunder that I have seen. Not even an option to do it. I played World of Tanks for many many years, I would spend about $100 a year at christmas time for all the loot crates and a years worth of premium time.

It's one of my favorite games, but there are certainly gameplay advantages for owning certain premium or limited addition tanks, but to be fair the same could be said about the same number of the non premium vehicles.

I play, but I stick to Aircraft only.

Game is honestly great up until the top tier , where it just becomes 500 missiles shot from beyond visual range and you blow up randomly while 500 warning sounds are going off.

Lol. I can see why world of tanks stopped at Korea. Modern combat is a much less in your face adrenaline rush.

No idea. This and WoT are going strong for like 10 years now? Though WoT has their own network. They were never really on Steam.
