Warcraft Movie exclusive footage @ Epicenter Moscow Part 2 - YouTube

This movie has been on my radar since its announcement since I'm a huge fan of Warcraft, but only recently did it really reach some hype levels as I saw more and more footage and behind the scenes. The visual effects look amazing for the facial motion capture especially, and I'm really digging that they're going deeper into the backstory than I originally anticipated (check out that Avatar of Sargeras in the footage).

I think one of their promotions to get Blizzard peeps to go see the film is some kind of in game stuff, and either free game time, or every game up to legion.

Some theaters websites are offering such promotions indeed, one of them offers you WoW with all expansions for preordering tickets to see the movie. Blizzard themselves has no such promotion to specifically SEE the movie, but logging into the game within 2 months of the movie release will grant your characters with unique weapon/shield transmogs for Alliance and Horde based on the movie designs.

I'll start off by saying I hate WoW the MMORPG irrationally. I have never enjoyed the game and pretty much feel that its the worst thing to happen to MMORPG's and gaming in general. This is not because I feel the game is terrible all around and I even acknowledge that the game does have some positive qualities. Its just the way developers and companies react to such a juggernaut is never about the positive. That being said I am looking forward to this movie a lot.

I love fantasy movies and I look at Warcraft(the movie) as just that. I am a lore nerd in that I cannot get enough of this fantasy/swords and sorcery type stuff. My enjoyment of this type of material is fanatical and I love a story done well no matter what. What I mean is I don't get so stuck on how perfectly a new movie (like Warcraft or LoTR or Star Wars) sticks to previous lore and follows canon more that its enjoyable. A new story in a universe can be just as good as the fleshing out of an old one. Now obviously there are limits but to me it all can be done well and be thoroughly enjoyable. I hope this movie is great and does well so that we can get more fantasy/swords and sorcery stuff in the future. Hell maybe there will be a non cartoon DnD movie eventually that is actually watchable besides for drinking game purposes.

I wouldn't say I sank a lot of hours into WoW. I tried it with friends on a few different occasions and usually for a week or two and at most a month.

No, the worst thing ever to happen to gaming is the freemium bullshit like Farmville. WoW doesn't even rank in the top 100 worst things to happen in gaming unless you are one of those folks that strokes out to the idea of camping Lower Guk in an 8x8 room all day.

Heh I said it was irrational hatred and more towards how developers respond to such a juggernaut. I was more just saying how much I still am looking forward to the Warcraft movie mates regardless of my WoW feelings.

Dunno about all gaming, definitely the worst thing to happen to MMOs since they purposely killed all their competition.

I mean I guess you could use the excuse well if your game is good then it wouldn't matter, but MMO's need time to grow and Blizzard did everything they could to make sure that would never happen.

EQ gave birth to WoW. The core concept and the brains behind WoW all came from EQ. It was both the first victim of WoW's success and ironically is still one of the few that survived it well enough.

I know that, what I meant was I'm glad Blizzard wasn't around to strangle it out of the gate.

Yeah, I recall hating choices EQ made in GoD and then seeing what OoW was bringing made me leave 2 weeks before the release while waiting for WoW. It's not like we were ever waiting on an EQ movie unless it was rated NC-17 with Firiona Vie porn.

Early reviews starting to roll in. Not looking good so far.

The final product brings to mind those animated advertisements for iPhone app games.

Imagine Battlefield Earth without the verve, or the unintentional comedy.

Yeah, think I'm gonna skip this one.

I wonder if any of the reviewers are familiar with the material to a real degree. That's kind of a big deal with an IP like this.

A couple reviews have been from people who have played both the original strategy games and WoW and those aren't any less harsh in their assessment. In some respect I think they are more critical because they have a sense of what the movie could be based on the source material rather than just be limited to what makes it onto the screen.
