M street in GeorgetownThanks I'll see if I can arrange that. Is there anywhere in the capital riverfront area of DC where there's decent concentration of retail shops like clothing etc? Area has heaps of food but little retail that I can find.
Lol Alexandria is super safeI'm in the Alexandria area for a conference this September, I'll be landing Sunday and flying back out on Thursday, so I've got a few afternoons and evenings to pass. Will I be shot and mugged if I wander about in Alexandria? Also, are the previous suggestions for food still relevant? I don't want anything fancy, just a decent burger, BBQ, Chinese or mexican place.

more in north old town from what i rememberOld Town Alexandria is really nice, lots of great restaurants down there.
Bob and Edith’s is awesomeI quite like it here, nice and walkable. My hotel is on prince street and I've been up and down king street a few times. Plenty of places to try. One slight oddity is most breakfast places seem to open at 8am, not much use when I need to be over at the conference by 8:30, so it limits breakfast options a bit, but the diner i tried today was good.
