Watch Dogs

The game is nothing more than GTA - no more and no less - Ive been playing it at 3840x1080 on the PC and it looks dam nice. However i cant see myself purchasing it without some vast MP support/features. Its ok, nothing special, the hype it wont live up to but like someone else said if you like GTA then you will like this, but dont come into it expecting to be blown away because its not going to happen.

So, probably not relevant to the thread, but I'll ask anyway: If you had to recommend either watch dogs or AC4, which would it be?

Seen quite a bit of gameplay now. I'd say AC4 at this point. Don't think I've heard anyone on twitch not mention that this isn't living up to the expectations.

Seems NWA should do the theme for the fixer missions. Either cops need a patch, or Ubisoft are going to release a statement that the cops in the "pirated" version are buggy on purpose. They warp it seems, go straight through cars. Ie: You can't crash into cars ahead of you, turning them sideways, then expect the cops behind you to run into said civilian cars. If you do not have them in your visual, the cops on the radar just follow you anywhere. Your brand of car, speed or success at maneuvering traffic doesn't appear to matter much. You apparently need to use the hacking things to actually stop them, or have them crash in your field of vision.

Did see one thing though, not sure if it is a bug or not. Driving towards the blocks that raise from the ground, if it is timed so that they go up while under your car, you will shoot up a hundred++ feet into the air. Saw a jump past two blocks, even lost the cops on that.

From streams the whole cop thing in this game seems worse than any GTA game I've played, and I did see that mission someone else mentioned here. Fixer mission where you start with "better stick to the back streets and alleyways" only to be greeted by 3+ police cars that instantly knew where to go. Those missions just looked stressful, not fun.

Cops are a pain in the ass to lose by normal means. But found out once you start utilizing hacks on street lights and blockers. It's a LOT easier to lose pursuers. Game will have the icon start flashing rapidly on when to activate it. usually anyone chasing you will get nailed by it.

Blue flashing prompts really only work well when you're the one chasing someone and want to stop them with traffic/blocker/spikes. You can still see the prompt when being chased but you'll take yourself out too if you use a blocker or spikes. You pretty much have to turn on focus and look behind you, and only activate the hack after you've passed it.

Personally, I just find an underground garage when I'm being chased. Drive inside, let all the cops follow as I do a loop around inside, then drive back out the same door and close it behind me. Then you get out of your car (because the stupid camera won't let you look straight up while driving) and hack the helicopter overhead and you're on your way. Worst case you might have to avoid some roadblocks on your way out of the giant white circle.

I take it you haven't played GTA V? Cops in that game are FAR worse than Watch Dogs.

And that mission was simple if you do what the game tells you to. Stay off the streets, hit circle to hide in the car when any cops shine a light into the alley you're driving through, and only move again when they take off. The route I used only required me to hide twice even.


And Tidbit, I don't think anyone knows what the gameplay is like for those preorder DLCs. The pirate version is deluxe but the DLCs are missing because they couldn't be activated yet I guess. The perk rewards are basically just free skill points that get spent on a particular thing, nothing special there. Unless youreallywant the outfits/guns I probably wouldn't bother with deluxe.

Is multiplayer working on the PC version ATM?

no question at all, AC4. AC4 is like a 95/100 game, Watchdogs even under the best light is a 85/100. The other must-buy game of this year imo is South Park.

hope some multiplayer vids start popping up soon dunno how fun that is. for pc i'd still wait until some more patches are out

Anyone else having performance issues on PC? I run SLI 3GB 660Tis, and it runs other graphic intense games flawlessly(my setup benchmarks roughly on par with a Titan/780Ti), and this game runs like dogshit at 2560x1440. If I turn everything to max, I'm chugging along at like 10 FPS, its unplayable. If I turn down minor things like shadows, then it gets a little better, but its still REALLY choppy.

I'm wondering if it's an SLI issue(which happens a lot in brand new games until new drivers come out), because there's no reason the game should run this poorly on my setup. Anyone else using Nvidia SLI at all and have issues?

also if you pirated the game the first crack has had an update that fixes performance issues. be careful though where you get it, lots of virus cracks out there including one that installs a trojan bitcoin miner on your PC (haha)

All the posts bitching about stuttering and massive fps drops seem to be from people with nvidia cards. The beta driver wasn't fixing it for most people, so hopefully they did something more in the version released today. AMD will have a new driver out soon as well, claiming 25-30% performance increase in Watch Dogs. I was already running stable 60 fps (vsync 1) with everything on ultra except textures, which I still don't have enough VRAM for. I'd be happy to switch from SMAA to MSAA though.

On the less-positive side, I played through all of Act I and am one mission short of finishing Act II, and the game's story isn't doing much to grab me. I do find the gameplay fun I guess, or else I probably wouldn't have kept going when I know full well that I have to start over when the game unlocks tonight. There's no way the pirate version savegames will be usable with the real thing.

Edit: According to forum posts elsewhere, new nvidia drivers don't do shit besides adding SLI profiles and fixing some issues with TXAA (performance issues that is, nothing can make nvidia's vaseline AA look good).

I am two or three missions short of finishing act 1 and I feel like I've already bought everything That skill upgrade that automatically highlights rich people to hack is OP.

Same. I admit i was super hyped for this game but reading peoples comments is really making me think twice on this purchase. I don't mind spending the money if it's worth it but if the game is only meh im not shelling out 70 for it since i was planning to get the special edition.

Official stance from the PC perspective is it'll be ~25$ in a few months on a Steam sale, so just wait.

I forced myself to not buy guns. It's dumb that you can just buy everything except the silenced versions immediately. I prefer getting mine from killing dudes and actually doing the progression unlocks.

Cars are pretty expensive even with the ATM skills, but the vast majority are just for completionists. You get the best motorcycle from clearing a poker table (worst. poker. ever. btw) and there's free "LE" versions of the really expensive ones that come from unlocks. One of the best cars can actually be unlocked instantly if you have Uplay points in your account.

Funny, considering my AMD card runs the game perfectly right now while most Nvidia owners seem to be twiddling their thumbs waiting for a driver update that actually makes the game playable. TXAA is garbage too, it's just weak hardware AA with a heavy full screen vaseline filter on top of it designed for low end cards--except SMAA pretty much always looks better. The rest of the article about GameWorks doesn't surprise me, since Nvidia has been trying to be the 'Creative Labs of GPUs' for years now. Sadly, they have a better chance of pulling it off, instead of fading into irrelevance like CLabs has for the most part.

i updated to the latest nvidia drivers and downloaded the latest watchdogs patch and game seems fine now to me, i was lagging on friday in some parts but no issues at all today. This is the pirated PC version (reloaded), I still can't play for more than an hour before getting bored though. There is definitely a lot of sandbox content and its kinda fun, worth $20-25 but not really $60+. I thought Sleeping Dogs and Saints Row were better.

I honestly don't notice the graphic differences between settings, I restarted and played chapter 0 on high everything and then changed it to a mix of med/high for the rest of the game. I'm running 4x TXAA, could not tell the difference at all between MSAA and TXAA but I am old and my eyes suck
