So a normal summer in the southwest?I lived in a place that had a heat wave, 3 months of no less than 90F weather. 90F at night if you were lucky. During the day it was 105F+ all day every day. Everything was heat soaked so nothing cooled off. AC ran all day and night. The last month was a grind day in and day out. Not a single cloud in the sky and not a drop of rain. Sun bleached the blue out of the sky.
Pure misery.
Vegas ties the record, 290 days without hitting 100 degrees. Should cross that mark in the next few days, 110+ in the forecast for next Monday.
we get storms like that once in a while in Jersey. wind so bad people think they're a tornado. last one knocked trees down on my street and a branch got shoved through my screen window, surprised it didnt shatter the window. its fucking scary. they dont call them a derecho though. i think its called a microburst. glad you got your power back, Gavypoo.jesus christ i got fucking derechowned on thursday morning. surprised it got so little coverage in the national news, probably knocked out power to several hundred thousand people.
Was almost comical, got a tstorm warning on my phone just as i was settling in for a nap, got dressed and wandered back upstairs, finally got around to actually checking the radar and had just enough time to see the near perfect bow shape and say 'hey wait isnt that a fucking derecho?!?' before the powerful wind that always precedes one came tearing through and we lost power immediately, maybe even from the first fucking wind gust.
Swear to god the damage would have only been half as bad if Ameren fulfilled their fucking legal responsibility to trim back tree branches near power lines. Shit's like PGI in California, albeit on a much smaller scale than a wildfire.
We had something like that hit west TN last weekend power out for a ton of people. Base I work at had no power until Friday. Was coming back from camping in MO tonight and when we got to Holcomb I thought we were going to get nuked by a tornado. Couldn't see shit, wind was crazy and debris was flying everywhere. Had to pull over at a church under a little overhang by the doors till it passed.jesus christ i got fucking derechowned on thursday morning. surprised it got so little coverage in the national news, probably knocked out power to several hundred thousand people.
