Stopped snowing here at about 5 inches now. They had just raised the totals for my county here to 12-15. Fucking dud

Freezie Snow!

Snow hasn't been too bad, its the wind that is a real concern. Though we're supposed to have another 12+ hours or somthing.

Yeah the weather guus are probably yukking it up over how well they trolled everyone. So far its just going to inconvenience me 5 minutes cleaning my car and rolling up and down the driveway to pack the snow in. meh.

wet and windy.
snow is sticking to everything, so will bring trees and powerlines down likely. Cant even see out my windows, becuase the snow is caked on them.
Claims of 13inches a couple hours ago on the news, but looks more like 8inches to me outside so far.

Power is out for over an hour now and wind sounds like it is going to open up my house. Wheee.

still have power, just measured out my front door, 11" still snowing hard

Yeah, that's not cool in the middle of a winter storm. Hope you have a fireplace at least.

Shoveled about a foot out of a portion of my driveway and sidewalks. The sucky part is always right there at the end of the driveway where the plows have dumped off the stuff from the road.

Definitely getting a blower next year. I'm too old and out of shape to be doing this sort of thing... at all.

Snow Blowers are totally worth it, although depending on the snow you'll still need to scrape down the sidewalk after the blower removes the bulk of it.

Love the snow blower. Worth every penny. Just load up on shear pins if you have small stones in a 20 mile radius of your home.

I just bothered to look outside the window...looks like about a foot of snow. Not such an "epic storm" inland.

Its picking up now. About 10 or so inches. No bad wind, thank satan.

Still no power. House is getting kind of cold. Wind is still howling so can't tell if it is snowing or just blowing. Snowplows have been running all night which I guess is good. Power company's website still says "assessing situation" after 5 hours now. Joy.

I know fuck all about cold weather, can you heat a house without power? I know you probably burn gas for heating, but dont ya need power to distribute it?

Still going. More like 2feet now.

RI is reporting like 200k without power. CT only 25k last I saw.
Driving yesterday would have been impossible. whiteout from 4 to at least midnight.
I wouldn't call that a no-show.

A woodstove backup, requires exhaust, and brick safety zone. both need to be installed prior. Nat gas/propane of course also.
Nat gas and propane generally are regulated by an electrical thermostat. however, battery backups for them. so you should be good to go with them.

Portable heaters tend to be electric. There "might" be exhaust-less propane portables.


If you have electric heat, and nothing else. I think you are pretty much shit out of luck, unless you have a generator. Wrap pipes in blankets. Wrap yourself up. If wind sounds like its "going to open up his house" I would say to check all your doors/windows, and make sure they are actually sealed. hell, I heard a gust and checked mine. 2 of my windows were just shut, and not locked tight. In the spring, you should have a home inspection for seals, and airflow. House shouldn't be getting that cold, that quick either.

Last I heard the models were predicting a chance for something on Valentine's day although that might be to the south and east of DC, and then on the 17/18th. Probably too warm down here but if one of them continues on to the Northeast again... enjoy

Out my window. There is a car across from that electric box. Weird, the even side of my street has no power. Thank god we are odd.
