To me that makes no sense. It's actually more difficult to plow, I would imagine. I don't know the ratio of difficulty on plows when plowing fresh snow vs plowing hardened fucking ice snow. But I know that trying to shovel that hard shit is just awful.

well its the first time that ever happened here. they did have the plows going by somewhat often during the storm on saturday, but when the wind picked up and it started blowing all around i think they gave up because the ground kept getting covered almost immediately. on monday or tuesday the plows went by more often. the cars going by helped, and i wasnt going to give myself a heart attack shoveling myself out so i did it slowly and then headed back inside. alls well that ends well. i eventually got out and i just have to put in a little extra time at work. its no biggie, hopefully next time we dont get such an overpowering storm or the town is better prepared in handling it. after Sandy i did a whole week without power and heat then a friggin snowstorm happened just for fun and that was much worse to deal with. at least this time i had power and heat so i could could chill out on here posting or playing some old video games. i swore i wasnt going to log back into eq again and was happy i didnt backslide.

It was like shoveling fucking concrete the next day but I'll be damned if I was going out there when the wind was blowing snow sideways at 100 mph.

The best part about the aftermath is having all the same potholes that took 8 months to fix back again. Only larger.

My remote rain gauge in East, TX got 11" of rain over the last 2 days. Just east of there in north LA got 18" in 24 hours and they are expecting another 20" today. I20 closed and such. That's a lot of rain.

What's funny is my 95 year old grandmother drives 10 miles to town one day a week and volunteers at the old folks home all day. She told my dad on the phone that she would come home if she heard thunder. I could shoot a rifle in her living room and she wouldn't hear it.

Meh, I always go out in the snow with my snow blower. I am the "get it done now no matter what" kind of guy.
Last year when we had record breaking snow fall and a blizzard every goddamn week I was out there every few hours shoveling. Even at 3am. Fuck shoveling 3 feet of snow all at once. I don't mind shoveling 6 or so inches at a time. So much more manageable. It was hilarious watching everyone snowblow and shovel for hours and hours after the snow stopped and I was done in 20 minutes. Felt good man.

20 minutes times four or five times is the same amount of time you realise, right?
I lived in the Alps for 8 years and while the amount of time you are outside there is physically no comparison to shoveling a few inches of snow compared to a few feet. Plus if it warmed up a bit and gets heavy good luck. I made the mistake of going on the mountain to come home to 3 feet of snow. After that day I never let the snow pile up more then a few inches before I took care of it.

I have machines to do the work for me, but if I were shoveling I would likely do the same thing. Just noticing that he was making fun of neighbours who had to spend so much time shoveling when he had spent the same amount of time, just in smaller increments.

We're getting serious precipitation in NorCal right now. Flash flood warnings everywhere. Supposed to get multiple feet of snow in the mountains. My street looks like a waterfall right now.

Maybe you all won't die of dehydration. From what i read that just need 1 good rain season to get reservoirs back up

Austin area reservoirs are in good shape. Not 100% full, but they almost never are. But they are more full today than they have been in the last 20 or so years. That rain in May 2015 was INCREDIBLE for the lakes.

The funny thing is, no surprise, Austin wants to keep "Drought Stage 2 water restrictions" on forever regardless of a drought or not. Leave it to that shit government in Austin to do that.

Town close to here where we have got 20"+ in the last few days is now ordering water restrictions. I guess they have issues from too much water. Just seems kind of odd.

Everyting closed here, all governmental offices, shools and such. Just north of us got 30" in less than 3 days.

My remote guage on my property in east TX is at 24" now in less than a week and we average about 68" a year. Rayburn rose 3 feet in 3 days, not bad for a lake that is 120,000 acres at full pool which is where it was before the rain.

Dude, do you have any ranch work that needs doing? I'm tired of all this bullshit in the northeast.

Summer here nearly. Been in the 70's for a few weeks. But nope no ranch work. I don't have a ranch. I have what a lot of people would call a tree farm. I grow longleaf pine for a specific purpose. My timber sales go normally to the state of Maine for wooden boat builders who prize the longleaf timber. It's pretty rare nowdays having been replaced by longleaf.

But it's pretty low maintenance and low risk which is why I like it. I've been nearly disabled for almost a year and living with my parents so I use a remote rain gauge on the property to keep track of it.

But damn North Louisiana is still getting hammered with rain. Like around 30" of rain in less than 3-4 days. It's not what a lot of people think of when they hear Louisiana. It's hilly pine area, not swamps.

Saw someone commenting on an article about it "Why would you live where it flooded like that?". Well when I lived in East, TX we got 18" in less than 24 hours once. It washed a house away that was on the historical register having been built in 1890 or so. It's not like they were expecting that kind of rain every other year.

Yeah, not the swamp areas of Louisiana think of. I'm about 2-1/2 hours south of there now. Hilly area of pine plantations and such. It was still raining here as of about 30 minutes ago in Southwest MS just north of Baton Rouge.

I-20 thru there was closed as of yesterday.
