We started using an app for ios called myfitnesspal for me and the fianc? to track our food and also been running the c25k program (although now we just run a 5k every other night). So far in just a few months she has lost 20 pounds, went from about 120 to 100. My weight loss is a bit less, but my job is that of an engineer whereas she delivers mail on foot. Caloric deficit definitely is the key.

Anyone have any experience in training a dog to run with them? We are thinking about having our corgi run with us from now on but we aren't sure if we need to build her up or if dogs are just natural distance runners.

Oh, and because all threads are worthless without pics...

(first 2 pics were out of order)
2nd pic: August 2012 (before I began dieting)
1st pic: Late November 2012 (before I began lifting weights)
3rd pic: December 2012
4th pic: St Patricks day 2013
5th pic: This week.
Start a kickstarter to buy you a razor. Seriously, <3

<- AND SMILE(in pics at least), jesus fuck.

Before(way) I started doing DDP Yoga I was just dieting and lost roughly 60lbs(depressed, bunch... I do mean a bunch, of deaths in the family so wasn't active at all or very conscious about what I ate). :/ It was a TOUGH struggle to get skinny/in-shape again but it's very worth it. I was always skinny before so it was hard to realize/admit I had gained a TON of weight... and as shallow as it sounds it's nice(aka: awesome) getting flirted with/flat-out hit on again.

Myfitnesspal is an amazing tool for losing weight. It's almost impossible to NOT lose weight if you honestly log all of your food there and stick to the given calorie limit. It won't be fast or fancy, but it gets the job done in a healthy, sustainable way.

The best thing about it that makes it better than some other sites like Fitday is that it has a ton of foods already plugged in with full nutritional information. I have been using it for months and I've only run into one thing that wasn't in the database already.

I use CalorieCount, it's awesome. (Another suggestion for those curious).

Ok this question goes out to all you Golds Gym meathead types. I am 6'4" and currently 205 and although I work out and look healthy / fit, there is plenty of room for improvment. Now that it is summer I plan to hit the gym/cardio HARD and get to a cut/chiseled 220. So with that said, here is my question:

How the fuck am I supposed to get 440 grams of protein in my diet every day? Do I essentially have to live off of egg whites, shakes, chicken, and fish?

Those are typically the sources of protein that most people use. If you're a hunter, rabbit is good for protein.

Your only option would be illegal drugs to reach the goal you want though.

You say "live off" those foods like it's a bad thing or it's going to get boring. Do you have even the slightest idea of how to cook? The number of ways you can cook eggs alone is practically limitless. Chicken can also be prepared in an incredible variety of ways. And fish? The sheer number of varieties and preparation methods could allow you to eat something different every night!

Also, don't forget that if your goal is really to gain 15 pounds of (mostly) muscle, you're going to be eating A LOT, so you'll have ample opportunities to get protein into your body.

I hope you realize how difficult it will be to actually achieve a 220 pound, ripped physique from where you are, though. You make it sound like it's something you hope to accomplish this summer. More like years.

There has to be a legal way without using roids or whatever. Maybe all of the "legal" guys I see at the gym and at work are just genetics. But then again, people don't walk around with a shirt on that says "I do roids either" (shrug)

I guess I am just used to the type of gains I used to get when I went from 165 to 190 fairly easily. That was probably just my body finally finding its natural size after being undersized, and I just assumed it would be about the same work to continue that. To be realisitic I guess I will forget about how much I weight and just go into a cutting/trimming cycle.

I forgot to ask about timeframe. You mention it's summer and want to be ripped at 220 soon. How long did you plan on giving yourself?

If you want that before the end of summer it's physically impossible without steroids and such. Even then I don't believe it's realistic.

I don't care about the time frame, I am just using the summer as a starting point to hitting it hard because once Minnesota winters stop (if it decides to do so anytime soon) I get stir crazy and have more energy.

Arnold was ~230 at 6'2 when he was winning Mr Olympia's, just as a reference point.

Trying to get lean and trying to gain mass will just be a frustrating cycle for you if you do it at the same time. A lot of people do cut and bulk cycles, and I'm seeing a lot of people deciding to stay around 10% body fat and never go higher than about 15% when they bulk so they're fairly lean all year around.

You'll get good gains in the beginning but they level off quickly after the initial surge.

As for 440 grams, 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight (2-3 grams per kilo) or a bit more is fine. 440 is way overkill imo. To hit your goals what i do is make sure to get some protein in every meal and a good protein shake to get me over the top.

I always thought Arnold was something like 5'10" and weighed that but after a quick google search I guess you are right. I was just looking at The Rock and although he is 6'5", he is somewhere around 270 (which has to be roids induced) I was picking 220 as a nice sounding number that means being cut, but not huge.

Thanks for the help all. I appreciate it.

Yeah the guys now with gear are just massive. They make Arnold look small. I personally dont like the look. My ideal build is like the old time guys like Steve Reeves. I believe he is 6'1 and 215 here:

Why do you feel that you need to do 2x body weight in grams of protein? That would be my first question.

You can read any website on the internet and every single one will tell you a different amount. From my reading I've seen that the optimal amount is 1x-1.5x. Drink a few protein shakes a day, eat a lot of chicken and tuna, throw in some eggs.. it's pretty easy.

Also, don't forget about increasing your caloric intake. A lot of dudes want to get big but stay ripped at the same time. Doesn't work that way. Your best option now is to load up on calories and put on mass and then cut later. You're easiest goal would be to go 500-1000 over your maintenance caloric needs and go from there.

..unless you're Arnold.. in which case eat 10k calories a day.
