You could eat 1300 calories of cane sugar a day and lose weight. That's very, very low calorie. Like 12 year old girl calories. Generally that sort of diet is going to catch up to you.

My point was:
Eating 1350 of balanced diet I felt like SHIT and was hungry all day while losing weight.
Eating 1350 of 65% fat 30% protein 5% carbs I feel righteous, never hungry, and dropping weight even faster.

Yeah thats great and keep on keepin on but my point is that 1300 is a pretty severe restriction that almost no one would reccomend.

you'll be losing muscle as well as fat, which is not a good thing.

You could jack your calories up to 1800-2000 and still lose weight.

Yeah I feel like I'd be burning muscle too had I not gone keto. Worked out last night and hadn't lost any strength. My maintenance cal is 2300. At 2k I'd only be losing half lb a week. Thats filthy casual territory.

Went to the gym last week at 225. Weighed myself last night at 237. Granted this was after a large deep dish pizza.

You fucked up. Any good engineer knows the best methodology eliminates as many variables from the equation. Weigh yourself at the same time every day. Do it after going piss. Don't do it after eating. Put all those together and your best time to accurately track weight trends is in the morning after taking a piss. If you don't shit every day(like me), only weigh yourself on days where you took a shit the previous evening.

lol please, keto is not some magical state that only burns fat. Multiple people are telling you 1300 calories is a stupidly low amount for a grown man to eat. I'm similar height/weight (but 100% certain lower bf and more muscle mass) and I lost weight just fine on 1800-2100 calories.

At 1300 calories you are definitely losing muscle as well as fat, it's just a question of how much.

Yeah I do weigh myself once a week in the morning to keep track of trends. I was at my mother in laws last night after dinner and figured I'd check out the damage. When I saw 237 I was like "hmm", as I have never been that heavy. The only problem is who the fuck gains 12 pounds in a week?

Water/shit retention? If your diet changed radically that week, like Xarpolis' did when he visited Japan, I guess I could see most of the 12 pounds being temporary.

Also, relative quality of scales can be a huge variable. Before I spent money on a good scale, I had a crappy digital one that could vary by 5 pounds just stepping off and back on.

Use the same scale, at the same time of of day, on the same day, after taking your morning piss and/or dump, but before eating. Also, I have switched to weighing in about once every few weeks because that gives you a better idea of the longer trend.

I can easily manage that on a destination wedding at an all inclusive. But seriously, weigh yourself on a regular basis, first thing in the morning after taking a piss if you want to track trends in your weight accurately. It can be very enlightening and help you see where you're fucking up, or making progress.

oh great, a keto zealot...I've had some interesting encounters with keto zealots on reddit over the past week.

At 1300 calories a day, you are definitely losing muscle as well as fat. -newsflash, you are not on a low carbohydrate diet, you are on a low carbohydrate stupidly-low calorie diet.

Well you've posted 2 different links to the same study - so I doubt that you have 100 separate sources.

REGARDLESS, nobody here, certainly not me, will contest that keto is good for weight loss. What I, and others have pointed out, is that your calorie intake is closer to that of a teenage girl, rather than a healthy adult male.

Depends on how lean you are and how much muscle you have. You can lose muscle on keto, but most people dieting are too fat and don't have enough make for it to be much of a concern

During our morning meeting today, we got on the topic of weight loss cause a guy I work with has to lose 40lbs to even be operated on. The fat girl in the office pulled the "I have to eat 1100 calories a day to even start to lose weight" excuse, took every inch of willpower to not say anything.

In McCheese related news, I ordered dominoes and crushed out a thing of cinnastix, 16 parmesa bites, and a medium pizza. I don't know how you do it, I still feel like death.
