There's a slight buttwink when I go beyond parallel. I think I just need to stop trying to go absolute atg, especially on low bar.

In other news, pulled 275 7x5 today. Should hopefully be pulling 315 7x5 at the end of this bulk.

Trying to build up my squat again. I did that 6 week squat challenge last year and gained about 10lbs -- my ass was about as negro as you can get. Went from 25lbs on each side to a total of 365lbs. Unfortunately, I stopped going ass-to-grass around 300. :\ Love me some squats.

BTW, that dog in the video is fucking cuteeee. <3 merle.

Since I take the summer off of the gym so I can race without exhausted legs, Im finally back to where I was last year in squats. Did a set of 225(1.5x bodyweight) and felt good, excited to see where I'll be come April when the season starts. If I can keep my weight where it's at, should be noticeable faster this year.
What distance do you race?

Finally got myself some new gloves for rowing. So now I have no more excuses not to go to practice.

Anywhere from half mile(3laps) to 15miles(90laps), depends on the race, though I'm more of a sprinter so usually sub twenty laps.
Over the past two years I've gotten really into long distance running; I started on a whim when some guys from work asked me to train for a marathon with them. Since then I've run a few ultra marathons which I capped off this past April with the C&O Canal 100 mile ultramarathon.

Not long after that my work schedule changed to a rotating shift worker schedule, so I go from days to nights etc doing 12 hours at a time. Since then I've gained 15lbs and I'm trying to get back down to my race weight of 170lbs. In the past losing weight has never been an issue for me, but for some reason I cannot lose weight at all right now. I've been working out extremely consistently for 8 weeks now and have cleaned up my diet quite a bit.

Workout is as follows:

Cardio:
Five mile run every other day

Weight Training:
Everything is 5x12 and the workout is performed twice per week.
  • Shrugs
  • Calf raises
  • Squats
  • Bent Over Rows
  • Lunges
  • Triceps Extension
  • Upright Rows

Missing areas I hit with body weight stuff i.e. push ups, pull ups, dips, planks.

Since I started working out again I have lost literally zero pounds. I can't figure it out. Sure I've probably added some muscle, especially in my legs but I should have lost some weight for sure after eight weeks of this...

If you aren't losing weight the answer is always, 100% of the time, diet (unless you have some fucked up thyroid issues or something). You outlined your workouts but not your eating habits and eating habits are assuredly the reason you aren't losing weight.

Weigh and log your food, man. There is no great mystery here; if you're confused its because you're complacent. Most people tend to eat more to compensate for an increase in activity; its self-obvious, the body wants to maintain equilibrium, especially while being subjected to stress (in the form of resistance training and running).

Ok, done with Christmas binging, back to strict diet adherence, I feel like starting up IF again, seemed like I lost the most weight/fat consistently when I was doing that. It's pretty close to "ideal" as far as my schedule goes goes, I pretty much only eat when I'm at work... I'll usually start about 1 hour after I get there, and then a bigger meal a few hours later... Then I'll drink a protein shake when I get home, and then nothing else... Hard to eat more than 2000 calories a day when I'm doing that, even if I eat junk food. Currently in the best shape of my life aesthetically speaking, so I'm curious how far I can push this. I'm back to 190 lbs, with a goal of 170 and a plan for having a "beach body" for the first time ever.

Stop doing upright rows. Garbage exercise.
Lol, I agree with you, but seriously... anyone doing a routine like that really doesn't share your goal at all so they are unlikely to be persuaded by you hating on it. Ossoi wasn't convinced when the entire fucking thread mocked him for his coconut oil and meticulous BF% tracking -- because a personal trainer told him it waslegit as fuckyo!.

Right... I don't really like his routine at all: Increase the weights and go to something like 4x8-10 reps

Day 1: Squat, Bench Press, Row (bench or bent over), Tricep Press Down, Calf raises.
Day 2: Deadlift, Pullups, Overhead Press, Curls, abs

But the best answer was given by Khane... his goal is weight loss, he's already running 5 miles every other day... he needs to fix his diet and get to a calorie deficit, spend less time in the gym, and more time in the kitchen. 5x12x7 is 420 lifts a day, cut that down to something like 4x8x5 and spend 20 minutes less time in the gym every day. lift heavier weights (slightly different muscles worked on alternating days to give more recovery time)... spend less time lifting, fix the diet.

It's not about sharing goals. The upright row is a garbage exercise because it can really fuck up your shoulders. You find people recommending against doing upright rows all over the place for that very reason.

I didn't know that -- although I guess that might be why I've never seen it included in ANY plan I've read.

My point was more along the lines of: "what the fuck plan is that", "its obvious he doesn't really care or he would have researched his way into something better, etc etc...". That being said, I have no fucking idea how to incorporate weight training along with ultramarathon preparation.

This reasoning can be used for almost any shoulder exercise. Any overhead press for instance can completely fuck up your shoulders, and a lot more.

You might be right, I don't know and I can't be assed to research it. I just know that upright rows are one of those exercises you rarely see incorporated into decent workout plans (like Eidal mentioned) and, in fact, often see people specifically warned against doing due to risk of fucking up your shoulders. On any list of worst exercises upright rows are usually right near the top.

It's probably more due to the fact that they do shit all for your shoulders so the risk just isn't worth it at all.
