i just finished watching all 8 episodes so far over the last few days and burning through the thread. there are some things that are pretty obvious if you are watching it so close together. for one, as people have said, it's pretty obvious that Dolores' scenes are done from the unreliable narrator point of view. every scene with her in it just simply cannot be trusted, so using her scenes to try to suss out any conspiracy theories just aren't going to work.

secondly, the church being dug up/not dug up. feel free to correct me, but i think we are getting two separate towns mixed up. the white, intact church is in the same town the lawrence is from, is it not? that's the town where the host approaches dolores to bring her back when william says she's with him. the broken down, buried steeple to be beyond the edge of the map. it's a little confusing, i admit, watching it so quickly. My memory wants to blur it all together. the town that Ford visits and freezes with the... uh.. contractors or whatever, talking about whether or not to extend the canyon is the one where everyone has already been. clearly there is a connection because lawrence's daughter is from there.

A question i came up with while watching the last episode... so Dolores is the oldest active host... we've been told and shown on several occasions how often hosts change roles... it's interesting that Dolores has been dolores abernathy for 30+ years, along with teddy. which brings up another question... how long has teddy been around? from MiB we kind of get the impression that the hosts who are directly involved with that specific narrative have never changed roles. is that just the a byproduct of needing recognizable actors in those roles? or does that lend credence to MiB being a host created to find arnold for ford?

I think they are. She's wandering. The scene where she's alone on the train, the town...these are her retracing her steps.

Also that scene of her at the river where she sees a body(hers most likely) in the water than looks back over her shoulder for William and he isn't there. For me, that was the clearest indication that she is currently retracing her steps and we're just seeing a collection of different time lines meant to deceive the viewer.

That was interesting. Thanks for sharing.

watching the old 73 movie atm, i'm sure it's been 20 years + since I last saw it, but remember it well.

anywho, my prediction: last episode this season we will see william and logan in the real world before their trip and the roles will be reversed. Logan will be super kind and caring, william will be a little shit, like anakin skywalker.

Logan is the man in black, and I have all of 2 bits to cover any bets against it.

Oh, and yule brennor is the BOMB! the og terminator!

Read a theory elsewhere, and it could maybe almost make up for the ridiculous Maeve storyline (still not sure how I'd feel about it; might still be sloppy writing).

Felix is a host, and within the park they repurpose even the worker bee hosts. In a past iteration, Felix was actually a programmer. This explains his fascination with trying to get the bird to work, and why he's so easily able to mess with Maeve's settings despite being a glorified mortician.

It still doesn't get around the ridiculousness of there being no security controls for people in his job resetting her "abilities," but it's a start. That could all be explained by the whole thing being an elaborate plot by Ford that he's already aware of, but then it's terrible "writing" by Ford and the Westworld writers just slightly less so.

Would there need to be security controls monitoring that if it was a host though? Before the reveries they wouldn't have had the ability to go back on past experiences to do these things to begin with. Just grasping at straws for this not to be such shit.

When they started messing with her settings, they discovered that someone with greater clearance was already altering her characteristics. To what end, I have no clue.

One of the things that's stuck with me is from way back in the beginning when MiB said, "in the real world its all coincidence, but in here, everything has a purpose."

I hope that means that stuff going on with maeve has a purpose as well

Yeah the fact that someone is already messing with Maeve completely explains why these two mongoloids are able to bypass all this security. They are either being set up for a fall or just to be able to push a certain "narrative" easier.

My original thought when they said she'd been altered was when QA (Elsie specifically) upped her aggression and shit. I didn't think it meant Ford or Arnold, but I guess it could.

possibly? it's just that that comment didn't seem like a call back reference. it felt like another layer of plot being dangled

Yeah, the way he said it, it seemed kinda ominous, but doesn't make much sense for it to be. I'm sure the people who work in Behaviour tweak the hosts settings all the time, since, ya know, that's like, their job.

Right so if it was normal minor tweaking they wouldn't have mentioned it.

Wouldn't Ford have significantly reprogrammed her after her maze experience on top of the behavior changes related to role reassignment?

Right but this would be logged. It would be something well known in her software history.

Just saying that the way they mentioned it that it wasn't routine and it is a bit of a Chekhov's gun.

That referred to Clementine.

And if Maeve is a "narrative," then who the fuck is the audience of her story with fuck and suck the tech idiots?

In previous posts I've said the game (or theme park) we're watching isn't the wild west stuff, the real game (or theme park) is political / technological intrigue and is played with very few players. Ford is versing a few other people in this game, probably MIB and unknown players/participants from evil corporation x.

A lot of the shit we're watching is just pieces being moved around the board by the real players.

If the above isn't the case and everything that's taking place is surface level shit, then this show is retarded and I have no idea how it's going to go 5 seasons.
