Have you ever played Fire Emblem? 0robably the defacto standard of thise type of games. Bonus points if you like relationship/political stories with mega replay value (as there are many branches)
Played SNES Fire Emblem. I know there are a pile of them after that. Also played Langrisser... nothing else is coming to mind "right this minute" .. but I was hot and heavy into the tactical map shit back when I was little.

Which SNES Fire Emblem?

Monshou no Nazo (FE3) is the one with two halves, first half remakes the first one on NES and the second is a sequel to it. Genealogy of Holy War (FE4) is the one I always hear is the best game in the series, but I know it also has gigantic battle maps and fights can take a while. Then there's Thracia 776 (FE5) which I know nothing about except that it came out super late in the system's lifespan, like late 2000.

I've played all the Fire Emblems besides the first five. Wonder if they're too antiquated to get into now, or what. My favorites were FE6 and 7 (GBA) which are a super good time. Play FE7 before FE6 because it's a prequel, FE6 is tougher, and the story told across the two of them is awesome. Since FE7 got released here as "Fire Emblem" (the first FE to come over) I'm surprised they didn't also release FE6 here as "Fire Emblem 2". Basically just left a ton of money on the table with that one. The fan translation of FE6 is superb, though.

finishing Stellar Blade recently and wanted to play some shorter games I bought for super cheap last black friday so playing Terminator Resistance right now, was like $15 for PS5 disc version. Fun ps3/360 era style game with mid visuals but I find it fun, you play as a resistance fighter after Judgment day and its really cool in that wild post apocalyptic world. Very short too, I'm only 6-7 hours in but I've read its a 10-15 hour game which is perfect.

got Robocop Rogue City probably next and after that I might finally tackle Cyberpunk 2077.

Picked up Age of Wonders 4 on sale. Played it almost the whole weekend (for me..) 20+ hours in 3 days is unheard of around here.

Whole lot of stuff in this game... and incredibly expensive at full price. I can't imagine paying what they expect us to, full price, for this stuff.

Playing Scarlet Nexus as it is part of my PS5 Plus catalog. I remember not liking the combat when it had a demo years ago, but I decided to give it a new try.

It's alright, better than I had thought even with combat being a bit janky and the Story having some abrupt changes.

If I finish it before MH Wilds, I'll try out Atlas Fallen.

This is the best Terminator game of all time and it isn't even close. The Robocop game was made by the same people and it's pretty spot-on too. Those two and the 2008 or so Ghostbusters game for PS3 are pretty much my holy grail trio for games based on movies that are pinnacle experiences and reflect their movies accurately.

If one really wants to Terminator it up, the Terminator Salvation game on PS3/360 is more decent than it gets credit for and only about 4 hours long. It takes place earlier in the future war. I played it a while back as a lead-in to replaying Terminator Resistance and platinumed both, and it was cool to go from "early future war" to "end stage future war". Too bad the Salvation movie didn't get the two sequels it was supposed to get.

What I'm playing currently: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, soon Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and after that I'm making a serious bid at finally finishing Zelda: Skyward Sword which I've been trying to get into since it launched 13 years ago.

I just finished IW not long ago. Man, that game really hits you in the feels a few times. Especially if you've played other games in the series and are attached to the characters at all. Really looking forward to Pirate Majima.

Yeah, not only was IW a superb game on its own, it also has that entire extensive series to draw from and basically be one big payoff for following these characters for so long. It's a lot like John Wick 4, has that "just end the series here because we can't top this" culmination feeling.

So Regime Regime has me utilizing my PS5 Pro now more than ever.

Silent Hill 2 remake was fantastic - I never really played through the first one. So that was the first one I knocked out so far. 17 hours and it was great.

Then I moved onto Ratchet and Clank rift apart - I am about 11 hours in and looks like the final steps - this game is hilarious and awesome. I cannot believe I didn't play more than about an hour before getting side tracked with something else. But about to wrap this up and 4k60 with RT is awesome.

After I finish R&C tonight I'll be moving into Calisto Protocol. On PS5 Pro this runs at 4k60 with full ray tracing. Played through the intro quick just to see some of the graphical settings and it definitely doesn't disappoint.

After that it will be monster hunter wilds for a while but even though it launches Friday I won't have a lot of time to get into it until next weekend (gaming weekend)

After this is all done I'll be going back to Regime Regime for more advice :p

Kinda thinking I will do Resident Evil 4 remake on Pro, then Dead Space remake, Lies of P. Should take me into the summer.

Most new games are shit, so it's good there is plenty in the backlog to see if this industry ever course corrects.

Playing Shining Force and Shining Force 2 for the umpteenth time, for research purposes. Two of my all-time favorite games ever, across all genres/platforms. I stumbled across Pirate Software on YouTube thanks to him blowing up a couple weeks back, and a 45 minute spiel of his convinced me that the stuff keeping me from finally making the spiritual successor SF game I've dreamt of making for 30 years was all bullshit. Hopefully in a year or two I'll be asking you bros to help playtest my game.

Last year my wife said she wanted a divorce, so I got derailed on this project pretty badly. Going to get back into it soon. My biggest hangup is art, anyone have any ideas of how to source good pixel art and/or an artist? I've tried using AI but it's not at all good at creating what I'm looking for, which is true nostalgic pixel art. Like literally 24 pixels by 24 pixels for a character sprite, for instance. It can (sort of) make things that look like pixel art, but it's not pixel art.

We have any good artists on the forums? I might check into Pirate Software's discord, I think he has a big area there for sourcing stuff, but figured I'd check here first.

Been utterly addicted to Retroachievements and got through Panzer Dragoon Saga and now working through Shining Force 3 Scenario 2.

RA has breathed new life in to playing old stuff via emulation - such an awesome site/utility.

Trying to get all the steam achievements for Warhammer 3. Basically beat the Immortal Empires huge campaign map with one legendary lord from each race on very hard difficulty.

It's a fun strategy game. Awesome graphics, the RTS battles are pretty incredible.

I love this game in concept but I cannot get through campaigns on it. Eventually devolves into giant logistics games against OP AI players and I lose interest by turn 100+ and I can't really upgrade or capture anything else just trade shit. Chaos on immortal empires with all those respawning leaders despite them having no territory is insane.

Really? Most of the campaigns seem pretty simple to me.

Last night I was finishing a tomb kings campaign that I had just bought the DLC for a couple days ago. I was doing pretty well playing as Arkan the Black. I took out Repanse early and started working on Volkmar. Then I got war declared on me by Sartosa from across the sea. I saw they were in a war with Scragg the ogre so I open up his diplomacy menu. By trading him my best city on his border I was able to make him my vassal. Which cost me some time and money but I instantly got all his armies on my side. I was able to do the same thing later with Thorek to help me fight Wurrzag in the southern jungles. Although I beat Thorek back to his last settlement before I vassalized him.

Skarbrand kept declaring war on me too when I wasn't ready for him so I just gave him a minor settlement every time he attacked me to make peace. Eventually he attacked me when I had some spare armies later on and I took his big red ass out.

TL;DR

The campaigns are easier to win through diplomacy than brute force. Unless you're playing Archaeon or Grimgor.
