What vehicle do you drive?

Looks : Subjective overall aesthetics
Fun: + convertible and manual - slushbox <> DCT
Utility: luggage and cabin space (can it handle going on a vacation)
Comfort: overall cabin comfort for driving (incl passenger)
Reliability: cross section of reliability, price for maintenance, quality, etc.
Performance: cross section of handling, ride quality, raw power, etc. (remember this list is more GT mission focused not track)

Any others I should add? Probably put M2, M3 and M4 on here.

Sort of, I guess I am rolling it into reliability in some measure. It's hard to gauge certain things 2nd hand, for example Porsche's are more expensive to service, but generally they are described as fairly reliable if you properly maintain them. The US based stuff seems like it would be a lot cheaper to maintain long-term.

Listing my Z06 for sale in a week or two. Initially I was going to use the broker that sold one of my GT3s. Fits your criteria, but it’s NOT a car for someone new to power.

Katech Heads/cam build with intake manifold, full exhaust, tune, clutch, BC Racing wheels, carbon fiber interior. Mint condition with ~20,000 miles. 596 rear wheel HP and it weights about 3,100 pounds. Big Toyo R888R tires all around help but it’s still a handful.

Happy to share more with you if it’s of interest.

I'd add the BMW 440i convertible, newer generation B58 engine which is not as trouble prone as some of the earlier 35i engines. Had that engine in a 5, it's seriously awesome, sounds great too. Stay the hell away from any tuned BMW engines unless you want to find out what LSPI stands for (basically 5 figure repair bills).

Personally I never thought M cars were worth the considerable extra cost and worse ride unless you're looking for a track toy.

Always loved the look of this generation of SLK but I have little first hand knowledge about them. Definitely comes with a stick, in Euro markets at least.

Looks like an amazing car, but it seems like pricing on those is still up there, clean one would be well past my price range.

Yea I had considered adding some of the x35/x40 vehicles to the list. I think the M badge is just a shortcut to finding a well optioned. The dilemma is a lot of those more basic BMWs are not cared for and in meh condition, just like M cars that have been abused.

The SLK looks decent, just seems a lot less common and available in trims that are decent in the US. Pretty sure manuals stopped be offered earlier too. But man early AMG GTs are so classy.

Very good bang for the buck. I’d pick the Grand Sport; wide body and brakes/suspension of the Z06 but a more reliable motor and more reasonable daily usable power. Apple CarPlay is nice to have. Comfortable ride. Prices are still high-ish though; $65k-$85k for great examples (mileage and trim level depending).

A Z51 equipped Stingray is almost as good (narrow body though) for a third less.

Axle through the oil pan is fairly common. At least that's still an aluminium oil pan, they're often made of plastic these days, even on heavy duty vehicles like semis.

So I did professional ceramic coating on the 2500.

100% worth it. Absolutely amazing. I park it outside and have a 400 ft dirt/mulch driveway and this thing looks clean all the time. About to give it its first wash later today. Thanks everyone for recommending it..

Skipped the PPF. Tbh rock chips don’t bother me and I just couldn’t have the price make sense. I’d rather touch up with a paint pen until it gets so bad I just have the panel repainted. From my experience owning my last truck for 15 years, I didn’t start using a paint pen for touch up’s until maybe 5-6 years in. That got me a long way. It was only in the last year that the clear coat on a bed panel started flaking.
