Ok, so I'm just going to keep my Benz a bit longer. The prices for cars are seriously nuts. WTF is anyone buying a car now is beyond me. But anyway...
In the dealership this weekend, some Caribbean couple is in the next cube over, so I can hear them talking. They are buying a Jeep Wagoneer for almost 70k. They are putting 2k down it sounded like. That raised my eyebrows. You're going to put like 3% down on a 70k truck? OK. Not my business. The kicker was when the wife says they may be late ON THIER RENT!
I wanted to walk over to them and slap them. YOU CANT AFFORD THAT CAR DUMBASSES!
But I digress.
I went looking for a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Even the Scatpacks are well over 10% more than a year ago! The three Hellcats I looked at were well over 15% more than this time last year! I walked out all three times shaking my head just wondering HTF can dealerships get away with this BS. Yeah, you will give me 5k more than my car is worth, but charging me 20% more the car I want! WTF falls for this shit? Are people just stupid?

Yes, people are that stupid and they will keep doing it. I know a couple that is house poor and somehow justified a new landrover. The only way they keep not completely failing is multiple bankruptcies. I didn't even know that was a thing. About the rent mortgage stuff. They used to give renters a long time to move out so they would live rent free for 6 months or more, this was before the eviction moratorium. On mortgages it used to take 2 years and they would pay they not small amounts to not wreck the place on the way out. One couple I personally know that lost their house got 10k. They weren't shit people btw, just unlucky. The wife was crippled in an accident and the husband got cancer...at the same time.

I had a gf who worked in insurance. Quit because she saw so many claims of people who got screwed because of plain bad luck. The one that did it for her was a man who was single caretaker for wife and daughter. He got into an accident and became disabled, and with no support system to help. Just plain fucked through no fault of their own.

Yeah, it happens and it is probably the single reason I am still in favor of some sort of support system for people. Like it or not we have a vested intertest in the kids and even though I know 'think about the kids' is used way too much it's just another system that needs a complete overhaul. Ideally we would just promote the family structure so even those cases would have family to help them out. Good luck with that these days though.

I'll use my family. I can absolutely say with certainty, that if I hit a string of bad luck NO ONE in my family would say, bring your family to my home, we will make it work. And THAT'S coming from a family of doctors, lawyers and engineers. Not sure why we have this mentality.
Now to be fair. I probably wouldn't either since I don't have the room. And I'm not putting up with your spoiled ass kids!

Jesus. When my parents defaulted on the mortgage back in the 90's we had a sheriff show up on a Monday and tell us we had a week to GTFO. Since the next Monday was MLK day he'd be back on Tuesday to make sure we were gone.

I'm kind and polite to fast food workers every time I go through the drive thru window. Thank you's, have a nice day's, etc etc. First off so I don't get the spit job, and second I hope to separate myself from the other assholes they have to deal with while getting a basic paycheck. With that said, I know you are in a hurry, but please take a couple seconds to make sure the lid is secure on a drink you're handing me. That way I don't get to pull away with hands like a 2 year old that just got done with their birthday cake. Now I am stuck getting everything in my car sticky in the process of finding a napkin, probably not in the bag, but in my glove box because I know it is going to happen. If it splashed when filling, wipe it off with a napkin or have some ready, and don't look at me like I'm the asshole for asking for some.

I just dropped my daughter off at preschool and as I was leaving, a ~80yo man on 2x crutches stopped to hold the door open for a women holding her son. She just breezes right past this old man, then I held the door open for him and he almost fell over trying to untangle his crutches.
